2011 First Event? Why aren't you ready?

As it's nearly March, just wanted to get a generic thread going on 2011. I'm seeing the start of the season very very soon and I really need to get my **** into high gear to get the car prepped and ready.

So, when's your first event, and what do you need to finish up yet?

My 2011 To-Do List!

My first official event is at Mid-Ohio April 8-10th. It'll be my first ever trip to Mid-O, and I'll be on all new suspension and aero for the first time - so I've got a practice day planned prior.
Test-n-tune probably March 26th @ Putnam Park. So my deadline for having the car put together and loaded on the trailer is March 23rd! Yep....less than 1 month.

I think I made a crap-load of progress early on. I've got new tires ordered, new rims ordered, new suspension ordered, decided on aero (sorta), got the car re-tuned at AMS, figured out who's gonna align the car, figured out my class and schedule. If you want more details on that crap, check out my blog or twitter in my sig.

Now I really need to wrench on the car...

Still left to do:
  • Win ***-load of money - lottery?
  • Remove old Suspension
    • Box & Sell
  • Redo driver seating position
  • Re-wrap downpipe?
  • Camera setup?
  • Purchase helmet visor
  • Figure out fuel hauling setup - buy more jugs?
Maintenance:
  • Change oil/filter
  • Flush Driveline Fluids (Trans, ACD, Rear-Diff)
  • Flush radiator
  • Brake system
    • Rebuild front calipers seals/boots
    • Check rear calipers
    • full brake fluid flush; then bleed
    • check/replace front/rear pads
Installs:
  • Install passenger seat & harnesses? (ballast)
  • Install new suspension
  • Install ARP Front splliter? - reinforce somehow?
  • Install ARP rear wing?
  • Alignment

My first event is next weekend (5-6 Mar), second is the weekend after (12-13 Mar).

Did my final prep last week, which included front Whiteline bar, Camber plates turned to get camber/caster set max with camber bolt set max. Also trailing arm bushings replaced.

Still need to scrub in a new set of hankook ZZ214's to try them out this year.

Hmmm.....before the end of March for an April 8th event (same as Nathan at Mid-O)

Send out shocks on Monday to KW for rebuild (2 week TAT with shipping)
Re-mount drivers side net
Install new splitter and undertray
Install rear bumper and rear crash beam with new tow hook (need weight)
Install front front crash beam and tow hook
Install new rear wing
Install second fire extinguisher pull
Permanent mounting point for Cool Suit cooler
Full PM on all hoses, clamps, nuts, etc.
Corner balance, move ballast to rear, alignment
NASA 2011 tech at local shop
Test and Tune ~4 hours at my local track to adjust wing angle and splitter angle and shake down the car (if the track still isn't covered in snow )
Heat cycle 3 sets of tires
Datalog tune; have Jestr adjust if necessary
Final dyno for 2011 classification

Luckily I have a great Mitsu Master mechanic/race car builder that does all the hard stuff like switching over to a Quafie non-ACD t-case and reinstalling the tranny that was just refreshed (and the easy stuff if I consider it hard)

Car is currently getting some body stuff done so should be back 1st week in March...tight time line but doable

More stuff to do after the 1st event (mostly aero and some interior), but one thing at a time

i might tune in march RNY but before def. running a track day with a Porsche club to test the tune and new brake set up which is pretty dramatic now.
No ABS neither power assist, so its kind of pedal box.

WHat i have to finish? well.... i dont even go there lol

Its a usual race car thing. Never fiinished. never enough money...

Running with NASA/PDA on 4/2 at Lime Rock.

My car currently sits on jack stands, really I could bleed the brakes, slap on the R6's and pads and go for it, but I'm still trying to resolve my brake ducting issue.

I refuse to spend $500+ on brake ducts from AMS. My Forge ducts didn't seem to do a whole lot (I ran with and without them at Monticello last year several times and there wasn't much difference). So, I'm trying to think out of the box a little bit on what to do.

I also have to change the bleed screws on my brembos, which I do have them but it's been to cold to go into the garage yet. I also have a lip to install (cheapo eBay poly lip that fitments SUCKS on), A new cone filter as my apex'I one is horrid looking, getting in my GoPro HD, installing new boost gauge, my Valvoline racing oil - not street legal version with high zinc content , and t-case fluid.

Thinking about the new Global RallyCross series with the hillclimb car. First event is 3/25.

Hmm, to do list:

-move radiator to the trunk
-fab new radiator lines
-fab ducting & fan shrouding
-move shifter to make room for radiator lines
-move/replace HVAC to make room for radiator lines
-new motor (& turbo?)
-send fire bottles off to get re-certified
-lose at least 175 lbs from the car

Or we may just do Pikes Peak instead. Either way, hoping to try out a TT event after the rally season is over. Figure I'm going to be in TTU against some nutball GTR build, so it'll all be for fun.

Oh yeah...finish off BMW rally car build too.

- March 4-6, 2011 at ACS
^^^
March 4-6 at ACS is our season opener. Actually, our season opener has always been in February at Big Willow, but NASA dropped that event this year. Im planning on racing in ST2 as usual. Cant believe im about to start my 3rd year of racing. It went by so fast. Its been a difficult year for me so far, with some personal challenges, so im behind on my prep work. And since our season opener is less than a week away, you can say im a little behind right now. Hopefully i can get started by Sunday. Good luck everyone.

I've already gotten three track days in here in SoCal and going onto my fourth here in March

Dates I've ran so far:
-Jan 8th SOW CCW
-Jan 9th SOW CW
-Feb 13th SOW CCW
-March 11th(next event) SOW CW
-March 13th(big maybe depending on funding) Buttonwillow

After those track days I may done till fall though because of the skyrocketing gas prices -_____-

Hopefully by the March event I will have the following installed:
-New wheels
-Fresh Rubbers
-10mm Spacers with hubcentric rings
-ARP Extended studs
-New Pads(Porterfield R4's most likely, never had those before btw)
-Performance Friction 2pc rotors
-Apr Splitter with a new CF SE Lip
-Flush drive train fluids
-Do oil change

Mods for later this year(fall):
-TRE Diff
-Voltex Wing(already have it but I don't feel like spending $300+ for the mounts)
-Custom rear splitter
-Maybe start saving $$$ for a engine rebuild since mine will be cracking 100,000 miles here pretty soon
-Binary brake ducting
-CBRD racing radiator(Double pass time attack version)
-Binary seat lowering brackets
-Schroth racing harnesses
-Install Whiteline RCA
-Install Whiteline bumpsteer kit
-Rebuild and re-paint the brownbo's
-MORE SEAT TIME

and that's about it I believe.....

Im from socal and probably part take in at least half of the XtremeSpeed Evo Competition events.

Things I need to do in no particular order:

-Install Robispec KW Clubsports + Ciro Design Camber/Caster Plates
-Install Whiteline Roll Center Kit
-Get coilovers setup/ride height adjusted/corner weighted/aligned
-Sell a bunch of stock and aftermarket parts i don't need or use to fund some
expenses.
-Sell old suspension
-Flip the tires (left to right) Dunlop Z1s
-Rebuild front brembo calipers (seals and dustboots)
-Swap pads
-Bleed brakes
-Oil and filter change
-Oil Analysis at Blackstone Laboratories
-Install ARP extended wheel studs all around. Time to get the old ones outta there. They had a hard life.
-Get a fire extinguisher for the bracket i bought a year ago.
-Buy a Hans device
-Fix brake ducting

If I can afford it (most likely next year):
-Get a splitter/undertray
-Get a Kognition Wing
-TRE Rear Diff
-E85

Still my DD
-Wash and detail the car...lol
-Vacuum the interior...lol

To do: Lots

Finish by: Rofl

2nd event March 12/13th at Homestead, season opener for us was Jan 15th , in which it failed completely but that's due to me trying the VTA route, so now going back to recirc/APS I found. Also looking to do the rear diff it time allows.

Same event as Jeff and we'll be helping each other out on prep as always.

Installs
Seats and harnesses. Roll bar went in like a glove (thanks again for the hand, Jeff). Car's fairly stripped as street cars go. Gotta use my buddy's drill press to lower the seats a tad. Once they're where I like them, I'll do the harnesses, which should be a breeze.
Fresh set of ST43s ready to go

Ordered my GoPro, just gotta order my mount and I'll be set.

Maintenance
Change all fluids (bleed brakes, Tcase, rear diff, oil, maybe tranny but probably not since I haven't put many miles on it since its last change)

I'm pretty much all set for the season. Despite the roll bar/seats/harness project, this has been a very relaxed off season as the car just sat in the garage. Didn't buy any mods.
