Clutch problems for auto-x / RR cars?
We've all read about the people toasting their clutches when trying to outlaunch John Force at the dragstrip. Has anyone experienced problems from autocrossing or track events? I imagine this engine requires lots of shifting and every shift has the potential for some heat, wear, etc. And yes, I fully understand the concept of heal and toe downshifts, but lets face it - not everybody is 99.999999% perfect every single time!
Thanks!

Actually there is very little shifting going on at most autocrosses, although I suppose that may vary from course to course and region to region. I've attended a number of autocrosses in Texas and Northern California and just did one in LA. I can't remember any that really required me to do more than shift from 1st to 2nd and leave it there until the end of the course. The only item that sees a significant amount of wear at most autox's is tires.
BTW, Pro Solo is a different story. They do more runs and they have drag-style starts, with the Christmas lights and everything. I imagine if you did a lot of those events you would go through your clutch relatively soon.

I did 3 track days in the late summer and fall at a road course and I have not had any problems with my clutch. I was also learning how how to properly downshift (heel-toe and the like) so I bucked the car more than a few times, but I have not had any long term ill-effects.
I now have 7500 miles on the car.

Watch the transmission and the syncros with the fast shifting. I had mine rebuilt already. The car with the AWD and transfer case makes it a little harder on these parts.
Had them replace stock clutch while they had it out. I paid for the clutch, but they warrantied the transmission and labor.
