Terrible loss at Olympus Rally... RIP Matt Marker
Today at Olympus Rally, our community suffered a terrible loss. Matt Marker, Driver of car #65, left the road at high speed and impacted a tree on the driver's door near the roof line. The stage was immediately shut down and medical aid arrived in just a few moments. Life Flight was dispatched and emergency medical teams on the scene did everything possible but Matt was lost. His Co-Driver was not seriously injured.
Families have been notified and the competition for the day was halted for today. I have not heard if racing will resume tomorrow.
Our hearts and prayers go out to Matt's Family and Friends and all the competitors that accompanied him today.

Good night and God Bless, Matt. You are remembered.

one rally guy described it, i think the best possible way.
"Thoughts on today.
To all my brothers and sisters in this relatively small fraternity of rally people: Matt Marker died today doing something that he loved to do more than almost anything else. We buy and build the equipment and wrap ourselves in the best technology we ca...n, and we go in knowing that this sport is a breed apart from ANY other motorsport. We like that. We measure our movements on every input in every corner. We usually leave a bit in reserve for the times when the road surprises us. We even cheat the surface and get away with some physical improbabilities, and barely have time to enjoy it before the next challenge wipes the sheepish grin from under our helmet. Not every crash is surviveable. All we can do is stack the deck in our favor as much as possible with good equipment and measured practice. But occasionally, a bad hand will still be dealt, and we just need to really examine how much the game means to us, and decide on our actions from there. To my rally family in Washington tonight, please take care of each other.
