NASA MW/GL Mid Ohio Aug 12-14

Who's in; who's out?

We've already got an entry list posted; and updated. Including 65 cars in TT! I'm really really really hoping Dave took our suggestion and is braking the TT group into 2 separate rungroups. We had about 55 last event there and it was brutal for open track space!

I recognized:
  • TTU - Evolutionary
  • TTS - racer145
  • TTA - boomn29
  • TTE - Smike (in the SVT Focus)

  • ST2 - goforward
  • ST2 - Hamflex
  • ST2 - ApexElectric

Hope you guys get the 2 groups....if the 1.5 hours/day of the Cayman IC series stuff isn't going to happen (hopefully it isn't) then it's a no brainer...

That'll be a wake-up call; good luck! Expect ~60 cars in your race group!

Work rebuilding the rear tunnels. The flat bottom was reworked this passed winter, but it caused un desired effects at the Pocono speedway race. A desicion was made to reduce the height and have better seams. Carbon fiber plates would work much better but there is no time left to make fancy parts

Have a new Quarter Master 8 bolt clutch and rebuilt transfer case being quickly sent from Shepherd Racing. Hopefully Charlie at Function First Motorsports will have the Evo ready for the dyno test at EFI Logics, August 11th, the day we leave for Mid Ohio!

What exactly was the effect? Lift?

I can describe it as a buffeting effect more side to side rather than lift. The plastic extensions were waving. My fastest minumum speed through NASCAR turn one was 128mph. The rear was braking lose and my competitor behind me said I was leaving black tire steaks on the banked pavement. It was not like this last year before the bottom was altered. From the start of this project Charlie keeps asking questions and I do my best to descibe what driving the car feels like. I would like to go back in September with the new tunnels, but we are changing gear boxes for the nationals and I will not have the same speed. Maybe next year we will have the 4:11 JDM RS trans rebuilt and tunnels that are working. I can go back to Pocono and see what speeds are possible in NASCAR turn 1, on the reverse course we ran. Now I have the Race Technologies video/data to compare every minute detail. The Autronic ecu is providing data but the Air/ fuel, charge temp and boost still need to be set up correctly. We are getting accurate throttle position, water temp and rpm from the ecu. Then all the GPS/accelerometer information from the Race Tecnology system. We have all the data neatly overlayed on video with 2 camera's. If we make it as far as the nationals I will make it available to watch after the competition. It seems like every event I have a radically different machine to learn. So it's almost time to race it where it was built for - Mid Ohio and the NASA Super Touring Championship!

Found and fixed alternator issue and got high speed radiator fan back to working right. Working on the car tonight for more airflow to engine area.

Let us know how you like the Good Years! Charlie wants me to drop hp and run Hoosier slicks. Maybe next year after I use up my R6 and A6 sets.
