Yeah, you need to monitor the vital signs for the engine otherwise you are just hoping that things stay in one piece, and that's scary for a car you've invested a lot of time and money in. Your cooling efficiency is a huge factor like EVOlutionary said. If you are seeing heat soak or elevated oil/water temps or high EGTs then you need to ease off the boost or the timing. Running something like Tephra that lets you see knock counts is important too so if you do start seeing low knock you can make a change before it's too late.

I monitor knock.... and haven't seen a CEL for that since switching to E85.

I never had any water temp issues during 20 min lapping sessions on race gas at 25psi so not too worried about that... as for oil temps... I have no idea. I normally run a few hard laps and then take a cool down lap but that's not really responsible I guess. It would be interesting to see a poll of how many people actively monitor those items while lapping. I'm betting it isn't as common as one would think.

Thanks for the feedback.

I run 27psi on my built 2.0l on e85 during my TT session, cranking it up to 29-30psi some runs.

I am still on my stock turbo, over 130k miles. Probably 40k at 30 psi, whether that be on meth or e85. I have well over 50 track days, most in the TX heat.

and if it is being done it also matters WHERE it is being measured. oil temp in the pan is more important than oil temp at the filter housing, pressure is more important at the filter etc, IMHO.

I dunno, I think anybody tracking these cars hard that isn't monitoring oil temps is crazy. I ran for a couple of years with factory MR gauges which are junk, but at least the oil temp was there. Now I watch oil temp and pressure with Defi gauges as they are the biggest areas of concern. I never have water temp issues, but oil temp does rise if I'm driving hard.

As an update... I logged one of my sessions at the MAP Proving Grounds ... I was running 32psi in 5th gear for nearly 15 seconds straight. The motor took it but I feel sick thinking about that poor motor. Do any of you reduce boost in 5th gear to reduce the load on the engine?

I have two tunes on my 2.4 e85. 23psi and 27psi. 532hp. Running TT sessions 20min max. I am told e85 is very safe up to 30psi under Road Race conditions.

Thanks for the feedback.

On every lap, on every straight, and any turn I can

I choose not to worry about it... If I worried about all things oil..thinning via e85, loosing oil pressure during high speed sweepers and the possibility of extreme temps ... id never want to race the darn thing.
