How NOT to Run an Autocross Event!!

Corner workers in the middle of the course, some of them even crouching instead of standing, people walking around casually, light poles without any markings, and a 3 foot high curb at the edge of the course mere 30 ft from a fast section. What could go wrong?

lol i can almost top that. i went to a autox event here a year ago. we didn't have any of the problems you listed except something like the 3 foot wall. except our braking box (which is what it looked like the vette was entering as he lost it) was facing directly into a sidewalk curb (instead of parallel like the vid). had a porshe who, from being a eye witness didn't seem to touch the brakes as there was no skid marks, jumped the curb and took out a small lightweight lamp post. just luckly there was a small street between that and the pit area or some peeps would gotten real hurt.

I mean .... really?
He crashed because he lost control, simple is that. Too close to the curb ( stating 30 ft)

I mean, i hope this is just a joke.

Jeeez , guys...

Yeah, I don't see anything particularly wrong in that picture besides his driving. First post from OP too. Website plugged I guess.

Oh, look. My 1,000th post.

If I were in charge of that event, I would have the course run as far from the curb as possible. Anyone could spin and lose the car in that section and hit the curb so I feel that that the poor course design did not factor in the site limitations.

Did you see the person crouching at 0:30 is in the spin zone? It's another disaster waiting to happen. Everyone working on the course should be standing.

I think our clubs (Boston area) have been very fortunate. Our Fort Devens site is an old airstrip, which is wide open and very safe.

geez guys, seriously? we all know that there is numerous autocross courses that suck. designers are not the best, and sometimes courses arent laid out the best. this is RACING. when you sign the waiver, and pull your car up to the line, you accept the responsibilities and the RISK.

yes, sometimes some jack@ss causes a wreck and its not your fault, but its still part of racing. esp in autoX. your not side by side racing anyone, its you and the clock. and having fun.

it looked like he was going nice and slow (aka semi smooth) and coming into the back cones he got on the throttle hard in prob 2nd gear. those vettes have crazy torque and broke loose. he didnt control the skid (from one look it seems he just coutnered the wheel and left of the gas) and hit the curb.

its racing, his responsibility, his actions, his fault. im not seeing anything here. /rant

Agreed. There's always a choice. I was in a similar situation couple of years ago. The last corner exited into a sweeper whose runoff was essentially a field littered with huge rocks. Contrary to the encouragement provided by the other participants, there was no way I was going to put my car on the line and come out hanging-10. It's not that important.
