LOL: Lime Rock's Christmas Special: A Grand a Day to Drive Your Own Car!!

"For $995, you can drive your own car at high speed - with a private instructor sitting "right seat" - on Lime Rock Park's iconic race track."

http://www.onehotlap.com/2011/11/lim...grand-day.html

It's comforting to know that the fee includes liability insurance to protect the track itself but too bad the M5 owner pictured above would have to buy his own insurance separately (optional). And for a grand a day, the food and drinks at lunch better be damn good! I'd like another free Shirley Temple, please. Does that private Club Chalet offer a full body massage with happy ending as part of the package too?

That is sound like a rip off, same track same idea , witha car club would cost you around a half of that.
I know from personal experience....

When I ran the BMWCCA driver schools at Lime Rock in the mid 90's we charged $85 for a entire day....Now the more pricy clubs are charging around $350 I left the club when they demanded we make $3000 profit per event. I thought car clubs had a non profit status.

Wow WTF... NASA weekends are ~$300 and some of the smaller clubs are even cheaper. NASA that gets you 6 sessions on track for HPDE and 4 classroom sessions. Paying $1k for a day is crazy.

If I was driving THEY'RE car, like a fleet of those BMW's....ok maybe. But even then i'd prefer something like a SRF or Radical or something.

Absolutely, if I was driving their cars, and it covered insurance that might be worth it... a day worry free in someone elses race car around Lime Rock would be nice. Especially because getting my car to Lime Rock would be a pain in the butt, and I do really love that track design. The elevation changes are crazy.

When I first read this, I was thinking that there was some kind of sweetheart deal with a realistic price. This price is so over the top, they must be delusional for even thinking about charging this amount. If the day included as was said, a day with a Radical or a Formula car, it might be worth it, but for your own car? Not!

People wonder sometimes why there is so much street racing. While you will always have morons racing people on the street just to be cool or gangsta, many people would jump at an opportunity to race either on a drag strip or better, on a road course. Where I live, the closest drag strip is about 3 hours away. The closest road course is about 4 hours away and you cannot go there unless you belong to a club and they hold a track day. There are no free open days for run what you brung. I would love to just let my Evo go on a road course for a few fun laps, but alas, it will never happen. So, I live my life vicariously through Forza Motorsport on X-Box 360.

Well, there is a dragstrip 30 minues from me that has all you care to run test and tune every Friday night for either $15 or $20. They will even make sure you get to run side by side with whoever you want. And people still street race around here. The foolishness of youth overcomes judgement and common sense.

As far as this event, I'd hope it is a complete bust and the organizer loose their **** on it. I've never heard such an outlandish price to drive your own car.

It must be fun to have a track so close to where you live. Tennessee is right in the heart of drag and stock car racing. Come up to the great white north and the only "close" tracks are frozen lakes in the winter.

Hands-down the most overpriced track day I've seen. NASA / SCCA / NARRA all have HPDE events at 1/3rd the cost for 2 days of driving, instructors, etc - all with your own car!

For $995, I'd expect to be using a track owned car (e.g. when getting a comp license you have the option of using the schools car).

Isn't that what they charge for those "Drive 5 supercars" and "Drive an R8 for 4 hours on a track"?

This is verbiage from LRP's promo email:

*************************************
So here we go... thick wallets first...

This is for the “one percenters,” the splurgers, the over-the-toppers and the “I’ll do anything to impress!” folks out there. Both of these gift ideas are just a tad less than $1,000 – but they are awesome and absolutely worth it:

1. Know someone on your shopping list who’s been dying to drive on Lime Rock Park’s famous track? Okay, what you want is a BYOC Track Day, courtesy of the private Lime Rock Drivers Club. BYOC? That’s “Bring Your Own Car!” Yes, for $995, you get a gift certificate for four hours of track time, driving your car, coached the whole time by a racing driver/instructor. We feed you, we beverage you, we even provide the helmet. This is sooooo much fun. If you have a car nut that you’re buying a Christmas present for, this tops the list."
