Ya they didn't weigh much. However we can't use glass in road racing for several reasons, firstly it isn't safety glass so in the event of side impact it will go everywhere, endangering you and other cars on track (rules). And secondly you simply don't have space for it when your running NASCAR style door bars, again to protect from side impact. Granted hitting a tree is a bit of a harder impact, so i'm not sure i'd even run em in your case lol.

Eventually yes once you start racing, but windshields are free since they're safetyglass. However in TT and down they follow the DE rules which don't even require cages. But in his case since he's doing a full build and the glass would be sitting next to you in a gutted door then they'd refer to the standard race build rules. Not a fan of chewing on glass because 3 or 4 cars got caught on someone's oil slick, which seems to happen more and more often. Or say if it just "broke" due to other forces and your're right behind him, then you puncture a tire at 100+, etc. Sealed doors are different but still.
The exemptions are for things like Prototype cars which usually don't have glass anyway.
