Autocross help please!!!
Hey, I just got a ralliart and I think I might get involved in Autocross. I've been reading a good book on autocross basics and I think I'd like to try my hand at it. Anybody know of any SCCA Solo-2 Events in the Maryland/ DC area. I'd appreciate it, I'm an autocross newb.

go to www.scca.org and find your region. It should point you in the direction of your closest autocross sites. Also, if you plan on lightly tuning your RA, you'll be quite competitive in STS class... if so, I hate you, because I'm in that class with a 40 hp handicap on my OZ
Also, if you have any other questions, fee free to search these boards or give me a PM. Welcome to the sport, 3 events and you'll be hooked for life!

A few pointers for the DC area...
http://www.autocrossers.com/ -- online preregistration for SCCA and MWCSCC autoXes in the DC area. Preregistration is generally always required, and the events do fill up quickly. The next available event is the one on May 8. The SCCA events are in the parking lot at FedEx Field (where the Redskins play) and are run on an amazing lot.
http://solo.wdcr-scca.org/noviceSchool.php (edited to update URL) -- DC region's autocross school. The school is held on an irregular basis. Contact Brian at the email address shown there if you are interested -- he should be able to give you an idea when the next school is. I think it's currently planned for August.
http://phillyscca.com/program_schedule.htm -- Philadelphia SCCA region autoX schedule. There are a couple of events this year at Ripken Stadium, which is not far from Baltimore, including one tomorrow, April 10.
Other clubs in the area host autocrosses not covered above. In particular, I know of these organizations which host autocrosses, although I've never attended any of them:

http://www.scca-susq.com/events.html

Many of these are "marque" car clubs, but non-BMWs, non-Mazdas, non-Porsches, non-Corvettes are often welcome.

I was quite tempted to go, to get a feel for the lot layout and the quality and grip of the surface. Since the NE Divisional Championship is supposed to be held there, I would really like to get some seat time there prior to the big event.
But between the kids' plans, and the fact that my new suspension has not yet arrived, I couldn't see it happening tomorrow.

I'm going tomorrow. I have a silver ralliart and I'll be there with my fiance. Think petite and asian. I'll be there around 12 to see what this autocross thing is about. Also, thanks for all your help guys, especially jbrennen. Your advice and links were rather overwhelming and very much appreciated.

Hey, I showed up to Ripken Stadium today and it was pretty cool. I dont know when but I think I'm going to get into this autocross thing. And I saw the Red EVO today. It was pretty hot.

It was a great event at a great new venue for us. I really enjoyed driving on my new set-up too.

Check some of their results...

At the most recent (Apr 4) event, STS was indeed one of the fastest classes in raw time.
What that says, I'm not sure... either most of the local talent is concentrated in STS, or the lot they run on is a terrible lot for R compounds, or something else?
