so the transmission still "pops" out but not fully upon throttle release. any ideas what's causing this? only on strong acceleration, not when I'm accelerating slowly

Did you replace the clutch and if not how was the pressure plate in terms of leveling?

idk the shop did it. clutch could cause this? clutch feels normal in terms of engagement and bite, and this doesn't happen in other gears.

and again only happens on heavier accel, like just about if I'm doing enough to get into boost. under that, no movement

I only ask because when I had my transmission rebuilt, I got a new flywheel but kept the old clutch/pressureplate. The pressure plate wasn't 100% level and had a tiny bit of grab when trying to get out of certain gears on coast.

Popping out of only one gear is usually a bent shift fork but Jon would've caught that for sure. Did he tell you he found anything that was excessively worn? What was all replaced?

How many miles are on the car? I've seen popping out of gear due to worn out engine mounts, but that typically isn't just a single gear symptom. Giving the shifter cables a look over is worthwhile and so is checking the cables at the shifter itself.

yea not a bent shift fork. trans looked pretty good, just synchros replaced - surprisingly, the gears were perfect.

57k miles on the car. it only happened in 2nd before this, but it's moving in 1st gear now too, but the way the momentum goes off throttle, 2nd is more likely to actually come out.

interesting about worn engine mounts.. actually now I'm wondering if it's related to this part: https://www.boostedfabrication.com/c...ly-crossmember ?

i'll also try shifter cable bushings and new trans bushings. shifter and cables seem fine

likely something internal at this point, not bushings or whatever. I can push second out of gear with one finger on decel, so they didn't fix whatever the actual issue is

we disconnected the cable while in second - it's tugging on the cable itself, so it's looking likely something internal that TRE missed?? not sure what else would cause that amount of pulling on the cable itself. they said it wasn't the shift fork but can't think of anything else it might be

TRE def said they looked at everything, shouldn't be the trans.

Damn what a sucky situation to be in. I hope it’s something non internal that’s causing it. Does it ever pop out without any intervention from you?

on the 6 speed there is a small metal/rubber plug on the end of the trans... can you pop it off and look inside.. you should be able to see if the circlip holding the end bearing is propperly inserted into the bearing groove.... It is a long shot but I cant think of anything else..

meanwhile the extra transmission I got from TRE feels a bit too 'notchy'. I have to be mindful when changing gears, i cant just flick it

My TRE rebuilt was about normal notchiness at lower rpm’s and felt amazing at high rpm’s when shifting. John mentioned he has the transmission setup that way.
