I found switching from the generic chinese slim fan to a proper spal fan really improved my cooling capability also.

Anyone coming to Solo Nats have a spare Left (driver) side rear axle as a back up? I think mine is on the outs and groaning a ton. Its pretty loud driving down the road at 65mph and you can definitely hear it when swerving right but it quiets turning left.

We did about 80 miles today in Utah site seeing with it on our long trip to Lincoln. Its the most street miles Ive seen in 4 years probably. And we have a few more places to drive so we'll see if the axle holds together.

That sounds like a hub since the noise changes with lateral load.

the sound is like it’s coming more central, like reverberating up through the diff. I put the axle in about the same time the rear diff (tre built with new R&P a couple years ago).

also, I’ve had a bad bearing on the other side and you could easily feel it being bad. I’ll double check again but pretty sure it felt free last check.

I’ll get under the car after next drive and try to feel what is getting hot. I’m guessing the inner axle cup because it’s now leaking a little bit of fluid. Doesn’t for normal AX events but freeway driving seems to get the fluid liquid enough to seep out.

Yeah, this one has been rebuild with redline grease. That’s what leaking out too. Looks like I forgot my clamp kit with the better clamps in the shop so it’s just gonna have to leak a bit.

I would tear any inner joints apart and thoroughly clean out all of the Redline CV2 in them. The inners and outers require different greases. The outer CVs are good to go with a good NLGI 2 grease like Redline CV2 but the inners are a tripod joint and the moly and EP additives in that grease will keep the needle bearings in the tripods from rolling correctly and make them prone to flat spotting, eventually leading to a dead inner joint. Use either the NKG 302 grease that Mitsu calls for on the inners or an NLGI 1 grease that doesn't have any solid additives like moly. There are more than a few good NLGI 1 greases out there and GKN does make this tripod specific grease too: https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pr...sp?RecID=32811

while we are talking axles, Has anybody found a source for just the CV's alone without needing to purchase the whole axle?

CVs (rzeppa joints) and tripods are a somewhat standardized deal so it we are lucky Mitsu didn't go making their own bespoke size and we should be able to get aftermarket joints, just a matter of measuring the stock ones. The harder parts to get (if they're damaged) would be the end housings for them.
