2024 SCCA SOLO - STU Discussion

Haven't done a writeup from Sunday yet, but with a little less than 1/4 in the tank I got something that felt like fuel starve after a long left hand sweeper.
I haven't hit this issue in quite a while. I remember back at Fedex completing some runs with the fuel light on.
When do folks hit fuel starve? I'm wondering if there is some maintenance needed on my now 18 y/o car like a fuel filter or something. Or if this is just a specific sweeper on a specific day and I should just try to keep a solid 1/4 tank in the car at all times.

I use to be able to run down to fuel light coming on no problem. Now I run basically full and if I run a few gal low it starves on left hand corner exit. It wasnt over night either, it just got a little worse and worse over the years up to needing half tank then all the sudden needed to be full. My assumption is something is wrong or clogged/blocked/ on the venturi line.

i think 1/4 is normal, maybe it makes a difference how much consecutive sloshing occurred so its course/venue/tire dependent also. Not sure maybe evap/tank pressure can be an issue also. so far I've only encountered it on track. I'm a bit afraid to test with autocrossing with1/4 tank

First AutoX Event since 22' Nationals
First event with the XA car this last Sunday since 22 nationals. Lots of changes on the car so it was a lot of sensory overload. Biggest items were slightly bigger turbo, 4.3 final drive vs 4.68 oem, went to 295/30/18 RE71RS on an 11" and moved to 560/800 spring rates in my Ohlins vs 560/670 in the past. I also added 1.2-1.4 degrees of caster with white lines non compliance bushing and Dallas' camber plates. Took the interior out behind the front seats and went off to the event.
Some big take aways. Launching will probably be necessary with the longer gearing; but boy does the car eat in 2nd. I'm around 70 mph at top of 2nd at 8k limiter. Grip was very impressive compared to before and the car transitioned so much faster with the new alignment and tire setup. If it wasn't for the 20+ cones I hit across 6 runs, I would have been 4th out of 68 with a large bog on the launch and diff not behaving.
The bad: almost every run was so inconsistent due to my inner wheel wheel spinning in corner exits. I just installed this oem ayc diff and I'm not sure if the AYC clutches are worn out or if I have air in the lines. I have an evo 9 diff in the garage but was planning on sending it to TRE with a Cusco before I popped it in. Do not know what I'll do here yet as my next event is at end of April.
The really bad: on my final run across the finish line, car revved to redline with no boost. I didn't know at the time; but I had a cloud of white smoke behind me and people were rubbing with fire extinguishers. Thankfully; no fire but upon inspection later my new turbo failed. Thankfully the turbo is covered under warranty and I'll have a new one within a week.
Other XA items:
Big front splitter is built and ready for install. Big **** is waiting for spare trunk from local junkyard.

I haven't really been on here much to update things so far. A few weeks back - I competed at the OK PRO which was a blast. I struggled with red light issues that would have put me right behind Cameron Goode, but I ended up 3rd in S4 behind the two teslas. Car felt soft and a little bit of hop on the turn arounds....just couldn't get a clean, fast run on the left side due to the .4XX lights. I ran on 3 different wheel/tire setups...1 different one for each heat....just for testing measures.
Left side:
Right side:
Last week we had a TNT at Lincoln using the 2021 Nationals West course. My car felt like absolute *** due to hopping like crazy. Beyond frustrated. Even so - I knocked off time from my actual Nationals time back in 2021, which was good to see, even with how bad the evo felt on exits and entries.
unday was the same deal, hopping on entry and exit. 9 to 10 turns in which I literally couldn't power out/WOT. Worst performance there since I've been going down there and was dumbfounded as to what was going on. Come to find out yesterday - I was magically running 1 INCH of total toe in, in the rear. Note to self, don't rush a coilover install without checking the alignment after.
Video of how bad the hopping was:
2 more weeks to go until I can redeem myself and hope to hell this hopping is back in check.

Yeah - I wish my brain would have comprehended what exactly was going on. I assumed it was shock or diff related, but this had to have been due to the toe in.
Your ACD tune felt great on entry when it wasn't doing this back at the OK pro, so no worries there. Funny enough there was a time or two when I could get it to yaw a bit on entry, when it didn't hop. But that was rare in Lincoln. Hopefully I didn't do any damage to the diffs, because I could feel a vibration on acceleration. I'd assume this was from the rear diff due to the 1" of toe in.... In the mean time I changed the fluid just in case - looked fine but cheap insurance.
To clarify on compression, the rear is toe'ing out, right? I feel like it's probably the opposite of what I was thinking due to the following pictures....

I'm unsure if something slipped. Full disclosure - the last time I aligned it, it was quick and dirty and never rechecked until after Lincoln the other weekend.
This was the tire rubbing against the rear trailing arm. At stationary ride height, the tires were already touching the trailing arms....lol

So shock experts, I want to run this by everyone and would love to have someone prove me wrong here and or have some discussion...
I keep hearing people say the opposite of what my thoughts are and question my own thoughts now:
Thanks
I keep hearing people say the opposite of what my thoughts are and question my own thoughts now:
- In regards to rebound and compression. Compression is how quickly the weight is received at that corner/end. Rebound is how quickly the weight is transitioned off that corner/end.
- Stiffening the shock, whether it be compression or rebound SLOWS the shock/shaft speeds themselves, but SPEEDS up the weight transfer. Vice versa, softening the shock, SPEEDS up the shock/shaft speeds, but SLOWS down the weight transfer
Thanks
