Still seems like a gray area to me. Especially for the Evo. A lot of the justification that they give seems to be that STX allows you to get rid of the precats on the WRX. Well, the Evo doesn't have precats, and you don't need to touch the downpipe to go to the "one high-flow cat within six inches of stock" configuration.

Go ahead and replace your downpipe in STU. Heck, you'll probably be fine. But I wouldn't go so far as to guarantee that you'd be safe from protest...

I'm thinking about changing to a full 3" setup... dont think I can find a 2.5" to 3" high flow cat... and getting 2.5" cat + catback is a waste of time and money.

The WRX was specifically allowed to replace the pre-cat. It's in a fast track I believe.

To clarify what you just said, it's OK to change all the piping on the exhaust side of the turbo.

I don't think the STU exhaust/cat rules are ambiguous when they apply to the EVO with the single CAT. As long as you retain the cat in it's stock location your good to go. If you want to take the conservative approach, just keep the stock cat in the stock location.

Would it be legal to stay in STU after installing a "Vishnu Evo Stage 1 Standard" minus the cam gears and disabling the boost control on the XEDE?

Based on the discussion here so far it looks like this package would be legal as long as the cat stays within 6" of the stock one.

Is this a correct reading of the rules?
