what the hell is plasti-dip and why is it so popular in Canada?

Its not about popularity its about ease. Some people are more talented with a can then with say vinyl.
Basically its liquid rubber in a can. Some of us want that removal kind of set up with the front nose piece so that if by chance we can go back to stock. With this its 100% removal just like vinyl.
Its an old product actually, usually used to re-grip tool's but can be used for different applications.

If sprayed right it gives a really nice textured matte black finish. Lots of people on NASIOC use it on our (subarus that is) silver interior trim. Its also able to be peeled off if you ever decide to do so.

On the e39 forums there were a lot of guys Plasti-diping the kidney grills on their Bimmers from chrome to black with that stuff. I've thought about getting some to tone down the chrome trim on the nose of my Caddy, er, I mean MR.
