I just looked at the R888 I dont want a track tire. Im looking for a great street tire only. I do want something with more ttread wear than the Advans that came on the car. 140 is just horrible. I see the NT555 are 300.

talk to mrMTB, I don't think he liked the invos. The 555's aren't super great IMO.

The Invos are wearing well, but they require a lot of pressure in them to stiffen the sidewall. Turn in is too vague for my preferences (this is at legal speeds on the road). When these have worn out I'll, more than likely, look for other options. I miss the hell out of the A13Cs - drive 'em to work, drive 'em to the track, almost keep up with goofy's slick-wearing coilover-sporting 100whp-advantage at the track, and drive home without getting your hands dirty. They are awesome.

Pirelli non race tires kind of suck. The replacement to the brid re01r is supposed to be nice

But the great thing about the A13C is you can find people taking them off of their cars with low mileage (it's the stock tire), and pick them up for a song. I've seen two sets in the last week that went for less than $500 shipped (one with ~200 miles, the other about 1500). Add on Laramie's charge to mount and balance them, and you have a killer deal. I'll buy every set I can get my hands on at that price.

Top tier tires (all with strengths and weaknesses):
Bridgestone RE-11
Dunlop Direzza Star Spec
Yokohama AD-08
Nitto NT-05
Kumho XS
Hankook RS-3
Falken Azenis RT-615K (new compound)

If you want great dry grip, buy from this list. If you want long life... don't. If you want long life and great grip, then, well, keep dreaming.

The Evo's thirst for pricey rubber is one of the reasons I don't own it anymore honestly.

Having taken AD-08s to the track, I can vouch that they are a step up from the A13C. I've also spent quality time with the precursor to the RE-11 (the RE-71) and loved them.

From personal experience I will tell you the tires you want from this list (especially based on cost)
1) Hankook RS-3, incredibly sticky and wears very well on our car which sees tons of track time.
2) Dunlop Direzza Star Spec, very sticky and wears very well too. Lots of tread depth and a great tire.
3) Bridgestone and Yokohama, good but too expensive to care about.
4) Falken, I don't know anything about the new compounds wear, but the grip is awesome, expensive too IMO
5) Kuhmo XS, not super impressed, but not bad. Wore quickly on my buddies 4 door Civic SI
6) Nitto NT05, junk tires compared to the rest. Not much grip, doesn't like the rain and wears quickly.

Get the Hankook or Direzzas!

The RS-3 is turning out to be a great tire from all reports. If I could find a set in the right size for the Miata I'd buy them but they are on national backorder.

The Star Spec has a softer sidewall and vague turning. It heats up quickly, but gets greasy too. Think 15 minutes to a session before they're getting uncomfortable.

The NT-05 is narrow (so you can go wide), cheap and has a very stiff sidewall. It's turnin is razor sharp. It takes heat incredibly well. 20-30 minute track sessions are not a problem. It does not have the same ultimate grip (especially cold) as other tires, but over the long haul it definitely can hang. It comes molded with less tread (7/32) than other tires so they appear to last less time. $/mi is similar (since they are cheaper).

AD08's are great tires, but they are wicked expensive for the evo (not too terrible for the miata though, within $10 of the star spec if they're in stock). Good for the track and autox. Not quite as good a feel as the NT05, but they make up for it with better grip IMO.

W Rated
U.T.Q.G. 140/A/A

• 30/
35/40/45/50/55 Series

Serrated Black Letters

These are the Specs to the rs-3. Once again thee look hot but I dont want so a low tread tire. 140 is the same as the stock advans. I thin k the NT555 with 300 are a better way to go for normal street driving.

The tread wear ratings are arbitrary numbers that don't neccessarily reflect how long the tire will last. I don't have experience with the NT555, but it is an old tire design. If I recall it is 5-10 year old design and tire technology has improved greatly since then.

If the Hankook RS-3's don't float your boat, I would consider Dunlop Direzza, but not the Star Spec version. They are a "300" tread wear rating and a modern design. Also I have heard good things about Continental's new ExtremeContact tires... perhaps look into them.
