Tires?

I wouldn't recommend any dunlop tire but the star spec. There are better options. EvoXTX has the 555's you might ask him what he feels about them. I'd rather go with the yoko s.drive or the hankook evo tire.
You're making a compromise here by getting ****tier tires. Be VERY aware of this and recognize that if you drive the car 10/10's on crap tires you might put yourself into a guard rail or some other hazard because your tires gave up on you. The 20sqin of tire contact with the road is the ONLY thing keeping you planted on this earth. Do you want the lowest bidder providing that contact patch?

I know the EVO doesnt use valve stems in the traditional sense. They are metal stems that are part of the inflation system, so dont let them tell you they have to be replaced.
As far as balancing, Yes 100% if you dont you you shake and wobble all over tearing up suspension parts and wearing out tires really fast.

Valve stems are valve stems. I do not replace unless they are cracked or leaking. They do not need to be replace at normal tire changes.
Supraboy - goofy has hit all the points here. There are compromises with tire choices. Lots of grip = more wear. What do you want? I would recommend a Max Summer (240 UTQG range) type tire if you want something with slightly less grip but better wear.
And UTQG is an US regulatory standard to help people decide on which tires to get. Lower number, quicker wear. Sizing is DOT.
I would recommend a XL load tire. They typically have stiffer sidewalls, which you will feel in DD.
I am testing the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric in 215/45/17 XL 240 AA A on my SVTF right now. I ran the Goodyear Eagle GT 215/45/17 400 AA A for 20k with very good wear and lots of grip for DD use. And I ran them for 6 AX events for fun.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but does anyone know of a cheap place to get some 245/40/18 mounted and balanced.
I figure I'll end up getting some Sumitomo's as DD replacements from Tire rack, so I'll need them fitted.
Thanks
David
