I think I just got knocked on the head

I saw one of the new Genesis coupe's at a gas station yesterday; I'm impressed. Build quality and interior was just as good as an Evo X (much nicer than mine). Other than the rear quarter windows the exterior was stunning. And it comes with a detuned 4b11 engine mated to a 6sp.

Then I went and look at their price...so tempting...... Though not nearly as capable as an evo it's an interesting car and very tempting for the price.

Go for the V6 version with track spec option. I drove both in my search. The turbo was miles different in motor terms than the v6. Nice note on the v6 too.

I also like them, would probably make a very fun daily-driver.

It really reminds me of the Nissan Silvia. Low price, 4cyl turbo, rwd, sporty, etc. I don't like the v6 version, who wants a Hyndai Minivan v6 when you could have a Mitsubishi 4b11.

Yeah it's not a bad car. It's RWD too which is cool.

There's a thread on this forum done by some shop (I forget which) where they bought one and were pepping it up. The results of their work was an improvement over stock but not what I would consider impressive -- if I remember correctly.

There's other cars I would probably buy first if I were looking for a sporty RWD import. But if power and high performance was not then goal then I'd say sure - looks like a fine car for what it is.

More power + more torque. The Genesis 4B11 is really nothing comparable to Mitsu's Evo X & RA version.

It was AMS IIRC. Apparently the ECU is mega locked down and wasn't allowing them to do a lot.

I still like them and they seem to have done fairly well in GS for autox.

For this year they have the V6 with the track pack...

After watching this video I realize this engine has more potential than I previously thought.

The new 2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T is going to have a stronger and more powerful engine than the Genesis Coupe.

I looked the Genesis Coupe's engine up and read on it more. It is actually *not* a 4b11, it's the Mitsubishi/Chrysler World Engine v2. Mitsubishi and Chrysler designed the engine along with the 4b11 back in 2005 and decided to keep the 4b11 but sell off the World Engine to Hyundai (to recoupe the development costs). So they are very very simular, but different engines. Most of the block design is the same but, crank, rods, pistons are different. Head casting is close, but not the same, and different cams, springs/retainers and intake manifold. Lastly the turbo is a single scroll td04 (runs the old 19c compressor wheel in the old FP Frank Jr turbo too). So the turbo is simular to the old 14b that was on the 1g DSMs.

Hundai is rolling out the World Engine v3 with the 2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T as Kracka said, it'll be the current genesis v2 engine but it will have direct injection, and a larger twin scroll td05 Mitsu turbo (couldn't find which one). The shortblock is exactly the same though.

The world engine was designed to take 4b11 technology and distill it down to be a cheap to produce mass market engine. But based on the results I have been seeing some people get out of putting 35r's on these genesis coupes...looks like it has plenty of potential too.

I'd rather push an EVO X then drive a Hyundai.
