Potential Second Location for MAP...NTEC Style ;)

Hey guys,

I figured I would drop by your forum and get some input in regards to a potential second location for us. We've been kicking this around for quite some time now and with MN winter quickly approaching its moving its way up my priority list lol. Before you respond with something like "Right in my backyard" please take some time to consider the questions outlined below as we had originally laid out several options including Arizona, Florida, Las Vegas, and Georgia but those moved down the feasibility list based on these very factors:

1) Weather: Essentially we want to be somewhere that we can operate year round. I really like the average high temps in your area as its above 60 even in January! My only concern in this regard would be hurricanes, I know Houston isn't North Texas but if we decide on Houston would that be far enough away from the coast that I shouldn't be worrying about Hurricanes?

2) Competition: The focus of this endeavor will be based on service and dyno. From what I have heard the only AWD dyno in the area is Cobb in Plano, is that correct? What is out there in regards to service shops that cater to the Evolution?

3) Population: You guys have four of the largest cities in the US within a few hours of each other; Houston, San Antonio, Dalls, and Austin. What insight can you provide me in regards to the demographics of those populations, where are all the Evo owners? Keep in mind we do work on other makes and models as well

4) Cost of Living: Is one area cheaper than another? I would assume that moving away from the major cities would yield cheaper rent, but would this be detrimental in regards to potential work?

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head, hopefully this stimulates some conversation! I would like to thank you guys ahead of time for your input!

Don't know much about the other cities, but I def know you guys would do good here in Dallas/Plano area.

I only know of 2 AWD dynos in this area. 1. Cobb, but I have never been there and I was never really interested in any of their products. And second one is at jotech but they charge an arm ad a leg for the smallest things and specialize mostly in GTR's, Nissans, scion, hondas. Cobb and Evo dynamics are the only shops I know of around that know Mitsubishi in and out.

There's lots of money in the Dallas area haha. I know you guys would fit just fine around here.

Oh yea, forgot about awdtuning^

1) I've been here for a year now and just love it, simple as that. "A lot" of snow last winter was 3 days, and each day it was melted by the next morning. I'll also take the warm summer with low humidity any day compared to MN's temps with high humidity.

2) Every where you go is going to have competition. There are a few local AWD dynos, but really the only one that Mitsu guys use is Cobb in Plano. EvoDynamics doesn't have a dyno, AWDTuning, Alamo, and Jotech aren't really frequented by the Evo guys.

3) Huge area, tons of money, lots of people with nice/modded/moddable cars.

4) Dallas is CHEAP compared to Minneapolis, plus no state income tax.

But in all seriousness, DFW is a great location. Solid group of Evo guys, tons of car people in the area, and huge population.

I've visited a few times. Missing the Lodge meet tonight too

i think there are 7 AWD dynos in DFW. only one in austin is protech, and henderson performance has one in between san antonio and austin. i don't know of any in houston... i think turbochargers.com had one.
