Good Floor Jack

My father-in-law got me the Craftsman 2 1/4 ton set that came with jack stands a few years back to replace my old crappy set I'd had for years. No matter how careful or gentle I am with the floor jack, as soon as I crack the release valve it slams down. I'm looking at getting a new one that comes down with a little more predictability. What are you guys using?

I have had issues with the craftsman jacks in the past leaking. About 4 years ago I bought a jack from harbor freight, the orange 3 ton model. It's heavy, but low profile and has worked perfect for the last 4 years. I work on cars more than most people here, other than EvoD and Cobb so it has got a ton of use. If you need light, I have had good luck with their blue aluminum one as well. The jacks are nice, but I wouldn't recommend much else there for long term use.

Really happy with it. Watch for coupons (pretty much all car magazines) to get it for $59. Seems like I've been using it at least once per week since buying it last summer.

in 100% agreement with Chris on this one. I bought one of these to replace an older Craftsman I'd previously had, and have been *so* happy with it. I think I paid $70 for mine (and $25 for a pair of matching Al jack stands).

I had the aluminum one from HF. Under heavy use it's a little weak since it's only 1 1/2 ton. But they sell the next size, also aluminum with 2 pistons for like $129.00. Extremely strong and reliable.

Agreed with both Kracka and Pirana. It depends on the amount of usage that it will see, for the majority of folks, the 3k lbs one will work just fine(I have one), but I am on the cusp of using it too much and will likely have to replace it after a few years of sercvice. It is however, extremely light and great for carrying it to the track..

I got this one, better than Craftsman and as Kracka sez, wait for coupon. I think I got mine for around $60. On sale now for $150.

AC Delco

I've had this AC Delco one for over 7 years with no problems.

I have this one and really like it. It jacks up a bit higher than the 3000lb one.

And don't forget the all important $2 hockey puck...perfect for not marring up your pinch welds or suspension when dorking around down there. Ask Kracka

Good tip. You need this so the lift arm clears the factory sideskirts when it's fully lowered. I've been using a chunk 0' scrap lumber.

Found a coupon in my car mags and got one today. I have to say it seems pretty sturdy. I got a set of the 3ton aluminum jack stands too. I'm hopefully going to put it all to good use this weekend. I have oil change, break pads, and tire rotation on the GSR and test pipe on the SE.

I've never done the pads before but I'm going to basically follow the two videos Jose posted on EXF and follow their how to. Any tricks or tips I you guys know of?
