Yeah that's actually a good idea. I mean, I could even put the cat in the car to show the guys. And if worst comes to worst, I could perhaps pay those guys to put the cat back on and pay them again to take it off. I'm not doing it again.

Jeremy I just checked the link , motor and head is sold. But I am truly looking to start with all new. Something like a motor build I am not sure I would feel very comfortable buying used at this point , not knowing the history of the motor.

Plus like I said I will use this as an oppurtunity to do a full out build tranny and transfer case as well. So if it takes 6 months or 2 years it really dont matter. Dont get me wrong the thought of a summer without racing the Evo is still a little bothersome but in the end it will pay off, and the potential will be whatever I want out of it

The 30R is starting to look like a real small turbo

Answer about the cat

Here is the story......Yes I can inspect the car.... Yes it would pass obdII as long as the drive cycles are met.....Last the fine if a trooper or under cover checks your car is 5000.00 fine plus loss of inspection license.......Its just easier to put the cat back on for a few hours........

cat

A cat is cat,,, high flow low flow, etc.... The way a trooper checks is by temp....As far as I care, a high flow cat is legal....And yes I pass the car with high flow cats....

So in all reality Mike, a gutted cat would also be okay??? Most Hiflow's still cause CEL's anyhow, so it really wouldn't be any different.

another thought

Exemptions

If the car is driven under 5000 miles a year, it can have a check engine light on , no cat...no exhaust... etc , it still passes as a exempt car... I only know one guy that has an evo but hardly drives it ...
