i finally got a reply from the bmv, they said it has to be your second car (no mention of a mileage restriction, just that you had to have another car registered in your name), they also said a letter from mitsubishi corporate on the company letterhead stating that there were less than 8000 made that year would be sufficient, if you want you can also base it on $5000 worth of upgrades with pictures and reciepts, other than that you just fill out the appropriate forms and you're good to go.

i just thought i'd post this for the other ohio evo drivers knowledge, especially those who have echeck issue, .....like me

jrhecker, what does it cost to get collector's plates?
esp. if there are no mileage restrictions...this could be an intriguing idea.

Just talked to the state license bureau in Columbus. They said collector tags are issued in pairs so they still require you to run a front plate. I will be scratching that idea....damn I hate the front plate law.

Yes. They are still required on the front. You ALSO have to renew them every year just like regular plates. I have them on my '92 5.0 Mustang that is used for drag racing/show only. You definitely need to show that you have another vehicle registered in your name and the "collector car" is just a recreational driver. I sent them a copy of all my modifications, copies of awards won, etc. and explained to them how it was used.

I have them on my Evo. It takes some time and effort on your part. And it helps if you catalog everything, which I do.

Sorry to bring an old thread back to life but my question is do you still have to get E-checked with collector plates on an Evo?
