thank you, i appreciate the input. logic would tell me that it's a no point offense but i thought that i had heard otherwise.

I would probably pay a $50 fine but now i am pissed that he made it $100 so i guess i'll have to take a day off of work to fight it.

Sorry to hear that man
Bring $100 to the Mohegan Sun meet tomorrow, I'll watch your car while you go in and double it. Then you can pay your fine for free

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I got pulled over 12 in the morning in NJ for my exhaust but the cop just gave me a warning. Guess he just wanted to check my car out.

I got to tickets for my exhaust and had my mom (insurance agent) quote me for my new insurance statement this year and they came up as illegal operation (2 points each) which she said was equal to two speeding tickets. My insurance went up $600 per year so I took my catback off imediately till I fully understand the law.

check this out:

you should carry something like this for cheap insurance. next time (cuz there's always a next time) just pull this baby out and prove it to him on the spot- that is, if he doesn't think it's a bomb first and shoot you

it may be a good $50 investment Yeah, and if you have a certificate of some kind guaranteeing that the exhaust is under 95db (aka 50 state legal) then shove that in the judge's and cop's face

I have one of the loudest exhausts on the Evo that I've ever heard...all this talk about people with much quieter exhausts getting ticketed isn't too confidence inspiring

As I have found, he over-fined me for the offense, something I doubt to be an error. As much as I hate to waste my time, I will be fighting this one and I guess I'll keep you posted.

here, check out these two links:

they have been trying for a while to bring the aftermarket-exhaust community down for a while, but still have trouble attempting to "define" what constitutes as an offense. the decibel limit regulation has worked for them so far, but trying to regulate beyond that is clearly open to speculation.

i hear that the SRT4 people have gotten ticketed/fined/warned/pulled over regarding their STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM!! those things are just nasty-sounding though. no mufflers But you claim that loudness was not a factor, so this does not help you.

refering to the "altered exhaust"- you purchased the exhaust system and installed it the way it was originally made, correct? you did not alter the piping, or do any cutting or welding. this was the way you bought the exhaust in the first place! you bought the exhaust system as it is! this is a classic argument, and you should make it. or you could argue that your oem exhaust system was extensively rusted, corroded, hazardous, etc and you HAD to replace it. what's the harm in replacing a part on your car? people do it all the time.
