I got pulled over by a NYS trooper on the Thruway last night for 1) plate covers (clear plastic ones), and 2) "inadequate exhaust" (a Borla cat-back).

While I look for my license and registration, he shines the flashlight on my wallet to help me see. As I pull them out, he says he noticed... my HEALTH INSURANCE CARD. Then he asks "who do you work for?", "how long have you worked for them?", and finally "who do you know in <my hometown>?"

He must have not liked my health insurance, but gave me credit for my lengthy career with my employer: he dropped the plate covers and just gave me the exhaust citation.

I am little cooled off now after some nap and food.

I understand that I did wrong. I didn't have a front plate on. Same goes for the registration and tint. I will probably pay the ticket, instead of appealing. However, I would like to make few comments about how cops profile against cars like ours these days.

I've had my Evo for about a year now. Do you know how many times I've been pulled over w/o any apparent reasons? Probably a dozen of times. This is actually the very first time I got an actual ticket. They run my plate and license and then, let me go. I've grown to this kind of pull overs from the cops now.

On the same note, I had a 5% limo tint and no front license plate on my previous car, a black C230 sedan for 3 years. Never had a single problem or ticket with that car. I actually got many speeding tickets during the ownership of that car, and not once got additional citations for my super dark tint and no front license plate. Also, I've never been pulled over for no reason like I get these days w/ my Evo.

I guess that it's expected since we have fast-looking cars with wings . But, I am getting really tired of these kinds of harassment from the cops.

30% refers to visible light transmission through the tint, so lower numbers mean darker tint.

In Mass, the limit is 35% so I would say that the officer was being a bit aggressive. Of course, when you add the stock 95% to your 30%, you must have measured 28.5%, still not too far from the mark.

whether you feel like you did wrong or not you should get a lawyer and fight it. not for any other reason than that cop doesnt need to be harrassing people just because of the type of car they drive.

you should goto court. They would dismiss everything if you fix it.
If you remove the tint that is....

I would appeal or plead not guilty however the court sees your plea. Just show up and you never know what may happen. Better than just pleading guilty. That is what they hope everyone does. If everyone fought every ticket there would be a different world. Think global act local.

Maybe that was your problem when you were addressing him as "officer". Cops can really be jerks when you call them that. The patrolman that took down my accident report got snappy at me when I went to ask him a question and called him "officer". He goes, "Sergeant." I'm thinking to myself, "Okay, jerk." Granted, they have the ranking badges on the side of their arms or above their name tag, but how many will know the ranking system just by looking at it? Funnier thing is that the guy live around me. Seen him driving around a few times, but by that time I already had the Evo.

very true, if a cop sees that you are speeding 5over the limit there is a chance that he wont pull you over, but if you do that and have your loud *** exhaust, dark *** tint, and one of your taillights is out... buddy you are screwd

Fight it. Find an evo with the same colored paint, take the photo with you in it say you fixed the tint problem. Make sure you don't drive to your court case though.. haha i've seen that one before. As for your front plate tell them your front plate was bumped by a car in front of you and it was hanging because the bolt ripped out or something. Also take a picture of that front plate installed...

There are many ways to fight a ticket, if they don't toss it they might at least lower it. Where in boston were you? Which district?

do you have 30% tint on the driver's and shotgun's side? if yes, then it is excessive to have it there.
