i has a problem...

Hey guys,

I'm having a weird problem with the car that I can't figure out. Here are the symptoms:
  • AEM reads 13.9-14.2 at idle and part-throttle cruise
  • ECU sees 14.6-14.8 in both the above conditions
  • exhaust note seems to have changed, maybe a bit deeper
  • seems to make boost OK
  • idles fine
  • pulls fine, maybe better than before...
  • PRIOR TO THIS: my AEM had been all over the place, jumping from 14.1 to 15.3 at idle and part-throttle cruise

I'll investigate more tonite...I wonder if my front O2 sensor has taken a dump and the ECU is dumping more fuel than needed...I'll have to watch my EGTs tonite. Any other suggestions?

I are confoozed.

BTW, I may wash my car tonite.........

can the exhaust note change from the rich condition? I know mikie said his car got quieter when he leaned it out.

Sounds like you may have a boost leak or your o2 sensor is approaching the end of it's life. Throwing any codes?

Was your AEM always reading 14.1-15.3? I know mine does something similar, i was nervous there was a vacuum leak.

Tim that sucks about being sick. Sorry to hear about your uncle.

I think it *sounds* like it's running richer...I know that's a weird statement, but it just sounds more like it does when you bog a start.

The AEM was fine when I first put it in...running solid 14.7s at idle/part throttle. Then MA went to ethanol fuels and it got weird...reading more lean for a time, then more rich...I'd say for the past 4-6 months it's been sweeping through the 14-15 range at idle...

I'm wondering if that weird sweep is a result of winter gas? maybe the car's not appropriately compensating? And now maybe it's back off of winter gas?

Like I said, I'm confused.

And yeah, I'm on the stock O2 housing. And no codes at all...havent popped a code in over a year.

The sounds could definitely be from running rich.

I know my car AFR's bounce all around which may definitely be like you said from the winter gas. Mikie, any input here?

I dont think we are quiet off winter gas yet so i would think there may still be an issue but see if it works itself out. As long as idle seems ok i would think you are fine.
