E85 is less efficient than gasoline, It costs more energy to produce than you get out of it. It takes government subsidies and has made a small group of farmers rich, and at the same time has increased the cost of food (slightly) because theres less corn for food, and animal feed. It costs more than gasoline and the fuel efficiency is less, causing more fill ups. It's not widely available because of these reasons, its not a viable fuel. Don't forget how much the ethanol destroys plastics, destroying intakes and fuel pumps causing unnecessary maintenance that many manufacturers won't even honour the warranty for.
On January 16th this year:
Lexus ordered a massive recall of certain 2006 to 2008 models, including the GS Series, IS and LS sedans. According to the recall notice, the problem is that "Ethanol fuels with low moisture content will corrode the internal surface of the fuel rails."
Ethanol has also been linked to destroying BWM's mini components, lawn mowers, and several boat owners have lawsuits out for their boats gas tanks being destroyed by ethanol.
This 10% ethanol we all have to deal with now is already bad enough, and the government has been trying to ram 15% down our throats all in the name of green technology.
