RallyCross, Sunday Aug. 14th, Washington Cty. Fairgrounds
Hey guys,
I'm going to try my hand at RallyCross this Sunday and thought I would throw out the info in case anyone else wants to go. Anyone have advice for a first timer? I've never done it before but it looks interesting. From a brief glance at the Vehicle Classifications I would say the Evo in stock form has to go right to Open Class because of the corrected engine displacement, but I could be wrong. At any rate I don't think the Evo fits into any class that starts in the morning, so I'm going at 12:30pm.
If you have an '05 you can go test out that gravel mode of yours there lol.

Yeah I may come out to watch too. I've been to a few rally crosses just as a spectator / passenger and they're pretty fun. I'd have a hard time taking my Evo out there since I don't have any snow/gravel/rally tires to put on and I'm a freak about rock chips / dirt, heheh. One fun thing about rally cross is that it's more about driver than about car, so you never know who is going to get the fastest lap times just by looking at the cars, and if you try to guess you can be way way off

Rallycross + Stock/Street Tires = going sideways a lot. Without at least all-season, or all snow tires, you'll have no grip at all (I've tried it). Don't worry about rock chips, but expect your car to get *very* dirty. You will need to use a pressure washer on the under carriage afterwards, which has the unfortunate side effect of also washing off all the suspension grease. Regreasing the rear bushings is easy, but the front sway bar bushings are a ***** (mine still squeek).

The problem with going sideways a lot is...?
EDIT: It is supposed to be bright and sunny on Sunday and the course is on hard-packed dirt and grass, so hopefully my tarmac tires will have at least SOME grip. Sideways is always fun though.

I just got back. It was kind of interesting, just like autocross but in the dirt. Their water truck didn't show up, which meant it was dusty as all hell, not to mention hot as all hell as well. $30 for ~5 minutes on course and ~2 hours standing in the hot *** sun chasing dirty cones and getting covered head to toe in dust...I guess if you really love it, it's worth it...not really my thing though. I'll stick to track days and auto-x.
