db this is the last time im going to post in this thread cause it seems like the more people write the more confused u get, cause u keep on asking, this is the bottom line a cop gives u a ticket, u respond in what ever time it is ny is 15 days plead not guilty u will get a date in the mail. u show up with a lawyer or u can do it ur self. the cop presents is information u contest it the judge renders a decision, that is it no more there is no information at court, there is no information at the precinct where the cop works nothing period theres no subpoena for the officer there are no police reports available this is not a crime it is a traffic offense, speeding is a traffic offense unless there are other things present such as reckless driving eluding and so forth since he only gave u a speeding ticket it is a traffic offense.. once again i wish u the best tell the lawyer what happened and that is it there is nothing else u can do but wait and hope,, or find somebody that might know the cop and hope he doesnt show up.

2 fas 4 u, not all states are the same. And maybe you're right, only Washington state drivers should respond.
While I'm not in the OP's state either, in my state there are indeed police reports for tickets. The cop does his little write-up, turns it in and for a couple of bucks you can get a copy.
There is also a pre-trial conference for those pleading not guilty. Trial comes after that if there is no agreement made at the pre-trial.
Like I said, not all states are the same.
Edit: What I'm calling a police report is actually a copy of the ticket, but with the officer's notes of the event written down below. Whether that can be described as an actual police report I don't know.

2 fas 4 u.... in Washington you have 14 days to respond, you can either pay, mitigate or contest. You CAN go to the courthouse and view the written police officer's report. In Washington state, his written statement is his testimony, so he does not have to be present in court UNLESS you subpoena him. But his written report has to be attached to the ticket when he turns it into the courthouse. It is REQUIRED that it be there. Also, if he had used laser, a statement with the serial number of the gun, and when it was tuned etc must also be present. Trust me on this one, my friend is a state trooper.
Codgi is right in stating that a lawyer will do all of this stuff for you. I like going to get the officer's report anyway before I go see an attorney, because it states exactly what he says happened. So you'll know what you are up against. I have seen attorneys go in and NOT subpoena the officer, and rip the officer's statement apart piece by piece to get the ticket dropped. Each attorney operates differently.
Still, good luck.

I'm not going to explain the intracacies of the legal system as the information is out there, but you have nothing to worry about and you should be able to fight this yourself with some simple research. If you get a lawyer (Mucklestone, Andrew Phipps, Mitch Green, etc.) then you'll be fine and I can almost guarantee that you will never see the inside of the courtroom.
A lot of pigs are dicks and they prey off of the fact that the large majority of people won't fight tickets. He knew you were going faster than the posted limit but he has no idea how fast and he has no way to prove it. He didn't want to let you off with just a warning so he wrote some shat ticket in the hopes that he got his.
I'm not trying to belittle your situation but you seriously have nothing to worry about.

Well I am not getting confused here. Some of the things you state are different in WA...plain and simple. I am getting a lawyer because I have contested tickets plenty of times and have never had one dropped so I ain't playing any games...I'm getting a lawyer. I am just trying to get all the info from fellow NW guys to help me out first before I get a lawyer since I have never went this route. But thanks for the help everyone...your advice is much appreciated. If I see you guys at a meet I will be sure to repay the appreciation

personally I would take responsibility for your actions and pay the ticket. It frustrates me when people try to get out of tickets on technicalities when they know they were in the wrong.
if you did a 4th gear pull (over 100mph) on a public road you deserve a ticket IMO.

I bet you always abide by all the rules too I would pay the ticket if a police officer would take the action to present a proper ticket. But giving me a BS ticket that he basically has no proof how fast I was going it total bull. The problem now adays is everybody thinks like you and just sucks it up and pays the ticket. That what our governemnt wants and thats how they get rich. Cops know this and they will ticket you for anything they want and they know that 99% of the time people will just pay up. Are you telling me that every ticket you have ever recieved you just payed up because you were "in the wrong"...come on

I agree with you, db. I have gotten tickets where I was happy to pay a lawyer, just to spite the buttcrack pig that I had to deal with. If you have tried to contest tickets with little luck then definitely get an attorney. I had Andrew Phipps take care of a ticket in Kingston for me - I think it was $300, but you could probably find someone local to your area (I don't know anyone offhand).
I haven't had a ticket in 5 years...according to my record.
BTW - for the "do-gooders" out there, I am not some road-racer and have only been pulled over once in the Evo and that is because I was getting off of a cloverleaf offramp and decided to poke it to get ahead of a wave of traffic and then idle to the speed limit. Well the reason for the wave of traffic was the cop sitting in the middle of it who said he paced me, which he didn't (I was only above the limit for a 1/2 block at most, while he was getting out of the pack).

second, it wasn't a BS ticket. You've admitted you were doing a 4th gear pull and that allows for speed upto ~108mph. There's no road in washington state with a speed limit higher than 70mph. Therefore you deserved the ticket.
third: I've been written 3 tickets. I paid the first; I was speeding and I was caught. I fought the second and had it reduced b/c I wasn't speeding but couldn't prove it. (cop got the guy passing me in heavy traffic). The third ticket I "deferred" which is something you can do every 7 years in WA state. I was guilty on that one as well.
My intent was not to come off holier than thou; I was just suggesting that you man up and actually take responsibility for your actions rather than trying to weasel out of it.
