Emissions FTL?
hey all
got some work done to my 06 / IX SE, and am now catless. What are the laws in Seattle?
- when is the first time I have to do emissions?
- can I be issued a 'fix it' ticket for cat-less, while simply driving around? or only at emissions testing.
- what methods do people use to pass emissions (change registered address? or as long as the computer reports 'ok', they won't check for a cat?)? Currently registered to my downtown seattle address.
- i have no resonator / 2nd muffler.. so it's damn loud. I only say this because it's going to make people want to punish me
thanks all for the thoughts

It doesn't matter if you are in seattle or miami. Altering a vehicles emissions control devices falls under Federal law.
That being said...and don't quote me on that....emissions laws vary by state/city. If you don't have an inspection in your area, you may be fine. Except for the possible cop that may want to harass you.

Emmisions laws are both federal and state i beleive. In pa it actually varies from what county you live in. Up here at school they only do a visual inspection. but my home county where i am registered they plug into the obdii port and make sure the monitors have ran. I use a mechanical o2 fix so that car thinks there is a cat. The inspection station tried to give me **** about not having a cat but since my car is above 1996 they are not required to do a visual inspection. hope that helps

The 5th year of your purchase date if the car is new. I think its 2011 for you.
- can I be issued a 'fix it' ticket for cat-less, while simply driving around? or only at emissions testing.
You can if they can prove it somehow, but I doubt it unless you devulge the info.

If your car is registered in a zip code where they are emission exempt you don't have to take them.

WA state has a RCW where you cannot modify the muffler. If you get pulled over you will probably eat a ticket.

I just googled all the info for you since no one was actually answering your questions.

Great stuff, sky.
Sum: before 2010, register in a zip that doesn't require testing.

As long as you still have the 2nd O2, and just clear all the codes, then it should be good since they are only plugging into the ECU via OBD2 to do the test.
They also only do idling test, so exhaust noise shouldnt be a problem. Maybe you can add a silencer to temporarily quiet the car down during the test just for the sake of it?
