Good lord I hate WSP. Modified exhaust ticket.

So to all the ones who received a ticket for modified exhaust, what did you guys do? Did anyone actually filled out the Correction Notice form? WSP says to have a shop put oem exhaust back on with shop invoice for proof, take pictures of car with oem exhaust, and email WSP or any officer to sign off the form. What a hassle! Its just going to messed up my good ER tune. I'll probably ignore it and pay the fine when it arrives in mail. I have 10 days for correction.

I just went to the local Lacey police department after putting the stock cat/cat back exhaust on...The lady police officer didn't even know what a 'cat' was and just signed my ticket lol Im pretty sure you just need to get it signed off by any police officer

whenever I see one of these threads come up, all I can think of is all of the Harleys running around which at cruise are louder than most of us at WOT....not to talk about when they go WOT...but I guess they are "cool" not "punk street racers"..

Just an FYI the RCW (Revised Code of Washington) pretaining to this issue is RCW 46.37.390.
it states as follows:
RCW 46.37.390
Mufflers required — Smoke and air contaminant standards — Definitions — Penalty, exception.
(1) Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise, and no person shall use a muffler cut-out, bypass, or similar device upon a motor vehicle on a highway.
(2)(a) No motor vehicle first sold and registered as a new motor vehicle on or after January 1, 1971, shall discharge into the atmosphere at elevations of less than three thousand feet any air contaminant for a period of more than ten seconds which is:
(i) As dark as or darker than the shade designated as No. 1 on the Ringelmann chart, as published by the United States bureau of mines; or
(ii) Of such opacity as to obscure an observer's view to a degree equal to or greater than does smoke described in subsection (a)(i) above.
(b) No motor vehicle first sold and registered prior to January 1, 1971, shall discharge into the atmosphere at elevations of less than three thousand feet any air contaminant for a period of more than ten seconds which is:
(i) As dark as or darker than the shade designated as No. 2 on the Ringelmann chart, as published by the United States bureau of mines; or
(ii) Of such opacity as to obscure an observer's view to a degree equal to or greater than does smoke described in subsection (b)(i) above.
(c) For the purposes of this subsection the following definitions shall apply:
(i) "Opacity" means the degree to which an emission reduces the transmission of light and obscures the view of an object in the background;
(ii) "Ringelmann chart" means the Ringelmann smoke chart with instructions for use as published by the United States bureau of mines in May 1967 and as thereafter amended, information circular 7718.
(3) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the engine of such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle, and it shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle not equipped as required by this subsection, or which has been amplified as prohibited by this subsection. A court may dismiss an infraction notice for a violation of this subsection if there is reasonable grounds to believe that the vehicle was not operated in violation of this subsection.
This subsection (3) does not apply to vehicles twenty-five or more years old or to passenger vehicles being operated off the highways in an organized racing or competitive event conducted by a recognized sanctioning body.

not only hawgs but when you're in more of a redneck area you get the modified diesels. Loud and black clouds of death!
Thankfully I'm not the loudest bird in town in Monroe (lots of hawgs, lots of diesels) and I haven't gotten a second look at this point. The only time my exhaust was mentioned was when I was WOT on 405.

Reminds me of a funny story... Freddie went off on a WSP officer while we were tuning his car in a gas station parking lot. (stopped to pull logs and make changes) We collected (IIRC) 2 staters, one sheriff, and one border patrol car while we were idling at the gas station. As soon as Freddie pulled out they all pulled us over.
Mind you, Freddie's blood pressure was probably near hemorrhaging at this point.
I think the cop wanted to give Freddie a ticket for his exhaust and Freddie "kindly" reminded him that he's Florida resident and that his laws don't mean ****.

I got pulled over on Camano Island for my exhaust and I told the Officer that it was stock. He says "I would be hard pressed to believe that this is the stock exhaust"! I said "I'm sorry sir but it is". He says "but it dont sound like any subie that I have heard before". I then say (as the vein popped out of my head because he called i a subie) "this is not a subie its an Evo". At this point he walks back, gets down on his knees, looks at my exhaust, walks back up to me and says "I'm sorry sir you are correct that is the stock exhaust, have a nice day". I almost lost it right there and started laughing at him but I held my composure and drove away SLOWLY! My sister was in my car at the time (she has a X) and she couldnt believe I just got away with it. I'll remind everyone my car had the HKS Ti exhaust without a cat, AMS exhaust man (with 30R), HKS down pipe and once was called the loudest evo at a dyno tune day at drift office (we couldnt deside whos was louder mine or Mikey's)! Ti exhaust looks nothing like a stock kit so this guy really was out of his legue when it came to matching wits with me!

^Cop also called my car a subaru when he was referring to my exhaust loudness. I told him it is not a subaru it is a Mitsubishi. He said "I don't care what it is, there is no way that is the stock exhaust!" He also wrote the ticket for driving illegally in the HOV lane, after I pointed out that I had a person in the backseat (my 2 year old), and illegal taillights (was running VIII's at the time. I had my JDM rears in a box next to me (installed them later that day) and let him know the "clear" taillights were legal. All charges dropped; including the 95 in a 60, which was also BS (he said he paced me for a mile at that speed).
isn't that a tick over where Freddie's blood pressure starts?

Would his name be Michael Sheehan? Hehe. That's my boy right there. Got me out of every ticket I've gotten in the last 5 years. Including 70-40 on my gixxer. LOL stupid popo.
