I can't hear a whine that isn't normal in the sound clip you provided? Course I haven't heard a stock sounding Evo in a LONG time. But the whine I can hear is the cam set and they all make that sound. Maybe my speakers just aren't that good?

They JUST started servicing Mitsus there. I've been taking mine up to Karmart in Burlington, and then found out they started servicing Mitsus and took it there. I don't think they really know squat about Evo's though. I'm taking it back to Karmart for service next time.

Mine is still stock, but not for much longer. If you want to compare sounds with another stock MR, hit me up. I'm in Everett.

^you got plans, Angie? I don't think anyone mentioned this - is it the fuel pump that is whining? Maybe whoever had it before modded things but took everything out and left the fuel pump?

*edit - just listened to the audio. I *think* it sounds normal, but I haven't had a normal car for a while. Are you referring to the droning whine that raises when you rev it? I'll listen more intently to mine when I fire it up later.

Not really. I'm just feeling the itch. Once my new BOV is put in, I'll end up wanting to keep going. But, I need new brakes so unfortunately first money goes to them. Grrr.

Well you may as well go with better brakes while you're at it. Probably save money over stock from the dealer at the same time (assuming that is the route you might currently take).

Which BOV are you going with? Something louder than stock? Are you still with the factory intake? Go with an open-air if you want to hear it mo' bettah.

I actually have a Buschur pipe + open filter with the MAF sitting in the garage if you want to try it sometime. You would just need to hookup the recirc hose from your DV and should be good. It made my stock IX DV much more audible, along with the turbo spool. I never had stall problem with it, pre-tune even (some people have had that issue, but they might have been VIII's, or Buschur's previous pipe design).

Did they replace the alternator? They sometimes whine until the car has warmed up.

I got a HKS SQQV for my b-day, but haven't been able to install it yet because I have stock everything else and VTR hasn't found me a recirc kit yet .

No they didn't replace the alternator.
I live in the Far South Sound, Bonney Lake area.
Thank you to those so far who have listened to the clip!
Anyone else who can listen to the clip and tell me if it sounds normal I would greatly appreciate it! So far its 2 votes for normal.

This is how I know that dealership are bunch of FAWKS, the belt is the same for the 2.4 SOHC, any 4G63 since time began, and you can even use the stock T167 (napa, mitsu is MD326059) on a 4G64 with 4G63 head. It was probably a bad idler and they couldnt figure it out so they threw parts at it until they got it right.

Sorry to hear they put you through the grinder like that
