Angry Terrible Speeding ticket luck....

So I've had two tickets in the past 2-3 weeks, both of which were quite retarded... They were in my slow-*** daily driver, a Toyota Celica GT-S, and one was for like 12 over, and the other ~15 or so, I don't even remember now...

Anyways, I've had no tickets for years, so I'm hoping that will help reduce or get rid of them. I'm delaying my court date, so ideally the cop just won't even show up, but I know I can't exactly count on that.

I was just wondering - if I have one ticket that I go to court for, and there's another pending with a future court date, does the judge know about this? If anyone could let me know, that'd help out, as I know it'll look bad if I go up there saying "I haven't had a ticket for five years" and they can see that I've had two within a few weeks of eachother...

In WA (and I imagine everywhere else) the judge can see tickets pending. Of course, innocent until proven guilty right? Right???

*edit - Hopefully OR is as good as WA in getting off tickets. I haven't had a ticket in years. At least not on my record.

Yeah, this one was in OR, but you're probably right... it's the same... sheeit...

Has anyone had any luck with the whole "when was the laser last calibrated? how was this done..?" blah blah blah... I think a friend of mine tried it, but it didn't work. Not sure if it's worth going that route or not.

Stay in school kids. You received two speeding tickets that were obviously deserved. Man up.

Yah man, I don't think you're going to have too much luck. They will get lowered, but definitely not dropped. Don't even think for a second they are going to drop them for any reason. Shouldn't have been speeding.

Gotta speed in safe places, places that there aren't ever any cops. I use back roads that they aren't on. When I'm on a used road, I always keep it at the most 5 over. One of the bonuses for having a X, Cruise Control

Anyone know of any good lawyers?

and WTF is up with the replies "you deserve it!..."

are you telling me you've never done 46 in a 35 zone?? It was about 10:00 on a clear night with nobody else on the 4-lane (2 each way) road?? Yeeeahhh... I was even not attempting to go fast. A 40-45 mph limit would make plenty of sense on this section of this road - there's no intersections, no sidewalks... nothin'.

you were still speeding. you broke the law. they are there for a reason. and after you got the first you got another one 2 weeks later. like the other guy said, man up. hope you get a lucky judge who gives you pbj for the first one and maybe get away with one point for the second.

They can see the pending date if they look, because it is on the court records. Fact of the matter is they probably didn't bother looking.

OR must be tougher on tickets because there are tons of reasons to get tickets dropped in WA. My lawyer has near 100% record on getting tickets dropped, but that is for WA.

BTW - I think it is humorous when others say stuff like "shouldn't have been speeding" and "man up" to a fellow user when the fact is that we all speed. Just cause you aren't caught doesn't mean you aren't breaking the law. Should we all "man up" when we go 5 over? Hell no!

I would "man up" if I caused an actual issue but I will not "man up" and pay a fine if I can get out of it. Especially since speeding tickets are mostly a way to stimulate funding for the city, county, etc.

Thank you!... buncha contradictory jackasses here saying "hey man you broke the law!..." as if they've never done 56 mph in a 55... I was talking to a friend of mine who just got out of a ticket w/ a lawyer, but it cost him a good amount... sucks, but I may have to do it.

I've had a ticket dropped for the cop not showing up once, and another dropped because I took a driver class, so I'm gonna be an optimist and see if I can get out of at least one.

Hypocrisy at its finest. At least one person was at court with another pending, even. Maybe just to get the amount lowered so he could donate the rest to charity.

Good luck, trevor!

'trevor' - definitely fight it if you're feeling it. It's certainly very possible to go to court AND WIN based on the calibration etc. But you've got to have conviction (and also be prepared to not win).
Do your research. Get familiar with the process. It does take a bit of time and effort, that's all.

I know exactly what you meant when you said they were 'retarded' tickets - because I know you meant that you felt a bit silly breaking the limit. At least if you're gonna get a ticket get it for something substantial. Nothing to do with the actual limit over.

Your first visit to court isn't the trial - its a hearing where you either say guilty, or not guilty. That's it. When you plead not guilty there will be a date set for the trial and you'll have to spend another day dealing with that.

Chances are you will see the prosecutor immediately before you go into court the first time and you will tell him you insist you weren't speeding and you're going to plead not guilty. He will offer you a higher fine but not put points on your license. Just be careful. If the offer is 'unsafe operation...' you are allowed two of those over a certain time period. Third one gets you points. Also just chat to your insurance to see if points will even affect you.

We all speed. No one is helping by telling you what you already know. Good luck, drive safe.

Around here, cops don't mess around. I again, I don't speed where I know cops are. It could be a 20mph next to a freeway, but I still go that (at the most 5 over) because a ticket is a ticket. I've got a speeding ticket before and I'm not about to get another.

Trevor, I'm not saying you're one of these people... but guys that drive obnoxiously over the speed limit drive me nuts and definitely deserve speeding tickets. It causes wrecks, it causes traffic, and are usually more of an aggressive driver than they need to be. I think people that get speeding tickets usually deserve them.

When you get two in a row like that, that tells me you kinda deserved it. With that being said, maybe you just had bad luck and weren't paying attention at the time. It's very difficult to maintain speed in an evo because the throttle is so sensitive.

Everyone else has to "obey" the rules / laws. when I'm in the fast lane doing 65 in a 60 a copy doesn't look twice. But when someone is in the fast lane doing 75 in a 60, they totally deserve to be busted because it disrupts the flow of traffic. We can debate this all day long about how hypocritical it is, but the signs are there. They are there to generate money for the state/county/city. They are there for safety. Just obey them and you won't have any problems.

I know it's annoying getting tickets, every time I see a copy I get a shot of adrenaline. It sucks. But your odds of getting it dropped in oregon is very very slim. You'll either put a bunch of money into a lawyer and have a chance to get it dropped but probably just reduced. In the end is it really worth it to fight it? Just tell the judge you messed up, your throttle is really sensitive. Your speedometer difference is about 5 millimeters for 10mph and you lost it for a split second. Apologize, tell them you're very broke right and and need some help and I'm sure they will be very gentle. They just want your money.

Good luck man.
