Is this a good deal on tint?

A girlfriend wants to tint her 2010 Honda CR-V. 35% front doors, 20% for the rest, so its legal.

The dealership referenced her to Mr. Tint which wants to charge $300 for all 7 windows (2 front door, 2 rear door, 2 hatch and 1 liftgate).

What places do you guys reccomend, and can you get it cheaper at any of these places?

No - go to The Darkside on Lake City Way. When we have done SUVs there it has been less than that in the past, and I guarantee she'll be happy. He cuts the tint right up to the top of the window so it is hard to tell it isn't smoked glass, and his turnaround is only a few hours usually.

Check my car out sometime if you want to see an example.

I paid 345.XX for the tint on my MS3, 18% all the way around, with a visor strip at the top of the windshield. I got mine done at Performance Tinting in Everett, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. The lady that does the work is also the owner, and has been there for some 20 odd years, and her work is superb.

About your questions though, what brand of tint do they use? It makes a big difference in the quality of the tint and it's longevity. If they use good stuff, then I'd say 300 is reasonable, but I have limited experience with tint shops and pricing as the MS is the only car I've ever had tinted.

She's leasing the car so (unfortunately for the second owner) longevity isnt the deciding factor.

Tint brand is a good point. I know Carlos (owner/installer) at Darkside uses good stuff, but can't remember the brand. He also has a lifetime guarantee, but it doesn't sound like that matters to your friend. FWIW - he'll do whatever you want for the exact same price; and in fact I almost think it is a waste of money to do 35% up front for the money. He did one of my SuperDutys 5% all the way around (even on the factory smoked rear) and it was sick! You couldn't see inside with the dome light on.

FWIW - I have been pulled over with illegal tint on all of my vehicles - usually 20% to that SD running 5%. I have absolutely never been given grief on my tint darkness, even during times when I was being an *** to the cop which tends to make them RCW happy. It has never even been mentioned to me. I'd try to talk her into 20% cause 35% up front and 20% in the rear looks like crap IMO.

she can do whatever she wants on %. I score points for the tint hookup!

FWIW i'd do 35/20% if I tinted my windows.... But with my vision problems I have a hard time driving at night with tinted windows hence having 98% all the way around! woot woot!

20% all around is the way to go. Not too dark so you can't see out at night. But not so light that people are looking at everything you do. Plus it looks super sweet with 20% all around. Utah it's illegal to have more than 45% up front, and I've never even been bothered by police about it. Only problem was getting it to pass inspections.

I gotta take mine out before I go to NH! no tint at all is allowed in the front windows!!! and to me.... no tint in the front window with tint in the rest of it...not really the look for me!

I went to Anything Glass in Lakewood....it was like 250 maybe for 20% all the way around and soon it will be clear again!

Never got pulled over/harrassed/anything about 20%....maybe the ft.lewis stickers helped i dunno?

I just got my friend's CR-V tinted for her bday at Prestige Tinting (http://www.prestigetinting.com/) with Andy. She owns an 07 and we only did the front two and left the rest of the car stock tint. We went with the closest tint up front (Onyx which is around 20-22%). He cut me a really good deal if I wanted to do all the windows and if you pay cash he might be able to work something else out . He uses good tint and I have had other cars tinted there before. He quoted me less than he normally charges which is like 250 or 275.. It was either $225 or 220 but I'm sure he'll give you the same price if you tell him that you were recommended by Marvin with the black CR-V he just tinted like 2 weeks ago. I believe Andy used to work at VTR before he opened this shop about 5 or 6 years ago and has different black tints for you to pick.

Do any of these guys do a clear tint? I just need the UV protection and solar heat rejection. I don't care about the dark and mysterious look. I drive an Evo, look at me!

You can get the light blue ones, like most Mercedes have. They look nice and its subtle.

@ Minh - never asked, but Carlos at the Darkside does commercial stuff so I'm sure he has something.
