cv joints look clean

Most often from front right wheel well, but sometimes seems to be coming from others?

Time to sell it and buy a new X
Mine was doing this on the cold days here in Prosser this winter. turns out it was the springs and struts. i had those crappy green springs (tien) on stock struts, and it would hammer on cold mornings.
I changed to a set of MR struts and springs, and its all better here.
might want to look into that.

i just put the Valvaline VR1 (20w-50) for my car and i noticed a big difference from the synthetic. Plus if you are running Fp Black/newer red they highly suggest noe that you run oils with high zinc content in them. they just posted a Pdf of what you shuold use due to the way they made their turbo's. This was put out in oct '10 so pretty recent. I'm going to try some amsoil next since Parts Plus just started selling the full line up here in oak harbor.

back on topic: Amsoil has a high zinc formula which is what I, and Joey B are running.

I cant compare it to Sean Penn's oil, but I can tell you the Amsoil made the engine run VERY smooth. LMK if you want to give it a shot and i'll help you out.

do any of you get the oil lab tested (such as blackstone) after use?

I run 20-50 all year around but that's also because if you are not using balance shafts and have a built motor that is usually the oil that is reccomended.

NAPA Gold Oil Filter is ~$6 and just as good as Mobil 1. It is a Wix filter.

Part number is FIL 7092

good price! That is what you can find online usually. I'll have to do that going forward.
