Has anyone tried both Brad Penn and AMSOIL in their car personally?
I'm running Brad Penn now (20w50, in case anyone was curious), and so far so good. The motor seriously runs smoother than it did when I ran Valvoline synthetic. BTW - when the bottle reads "The Green Oil" I thought they were somewhat friendly to the environment. No, this stuff is seriously baby crap green!
Anyway, it seems I can get AMSOIL for about the same price and I was wondering if anyone had personal experience. I'm sure apagan will find this and have information that I'm not looking for (I do know that Brad Penn is a partial synthetic, btw). I want to know from people that I know and trust in the community and not some salesperson.
I'm guessing performance and effectiveness aren't too far off, but I honestly don't know (I haven't looked into test results yet). Thanks for any info guys.

where did u get the Brad Penn? Aaron said I need to be running it but I haven't changed my oil since then. From what I was told Brad Penn has one of the highest Zinc levels and thats needed to keep the oil from slugging. I know this is not the answer to your question but I'm just adding my $.02

FYI the zinc content is far more important than the effects on sludge.
Zinc leaves a lubricating coating on the moving parts of the motor, which is especially critical during cold starts. It'll promote bearing and ring longevity.
My dad used to use diesel oil because it still had zinc in it even once they changed the standards for gasoline engine oil.

^yep, Action Auto parts is one of the bigger companies I know with it on the shelf up North. Aaron, there happens to be a distributor right down the road where I work in Redmond. Go to the Brad Penn site and you can find distributors that are closest to you.
Unfortunately, Brad Penn sells for pretty cheap online; I've seen 20w50 on Amazon before for $5/quart, but the shipping pretty much kills it. I also know a local distributor for AMSOIL (and so does pretty much everyone else actually) and it is only a little more expensive than what I paid for the local stock of Brad Penn.
Derek, I probably won't be changing my oil for a while yet. You're more than welcome to use my garage if you need to. Sounds like you had something to diagnose also?

Lol no it is something mechanical, a sort of pop noise when taking a slight turn/bump
happens more often on cold start/rainy days
very inconsistent.... but happened a good 6 times in a row the other day.
cv joints look clean
Most often from front right wheel well, but sometimes seems to be coming from others?
Time to sell it and buy a new X
