its all your preference really! i would just spend the money on a brand that is known to be reliable, But then again they can go out just as fast as this ebay turbo. Where things come into play is with your customer service and you returning the turbo if it was defective or something. Don't take the chance on something and you don't know how reliable they are. Im not saying i haven't bought anything off ebay i do all the time but certain things i just rather spend that good ole money on to get a better quality product!

when it comes to car parts on ebay this is how I see it:
If it has moving parts (ie. turbo, internals, etc.) = NO
No moving parts (ie. exhaust pieces, lip, etc) = Sure

If you find a product on ebay you want at a good price then sure. Just make sure it really is the product you want.

I wouldn't use a eBay Turbo...what happens if it eats a compressor wheel/bearings go out? Do you know where all the metal shavings go?right into your motor...

^it goes a bit further than that before getting to the motor, but I agree with your general point. I would not buy a turbo off of ebay unless it is specifically what I want and I have a guarantee that I will get what I'm buying. I would definitely not buy some random "I-have-10-available-for-$290-or-make-an-offer" turbo off of ebay.

On the other hand, the guy has very nice feedback and the negative feedback has come from people who hadn't contacted him after receiving bad parts.

If you have an extra $290 laying around it may be worth a try, just don't go in with high expectations so that if it doesn't work it isn't a huge letdown.

and realize (since you're a self-proclaimed newb, OP) that $290 only buys you the turbo. You'd still have to source the rest of the T4 kit (in this case).

honestly with ebay its a toss up and it will probably end up worse for you with engine problems and so fourth. Its better to do it once the right way then twice the wrong. youll end up spending more going the ebay route, just save up and wait to buy something like FP, ETS, Garrett, so on

what do you have done to your car already because? that 290 could get you hard intercooler piping, or something else that could help improve your performance.
