HID High Beams - Yes? or No?

Coming from a 2010 Ralliart I had a Bi-Xenon setup for my High Beams and I kinda miss the light output. my RVR GT has Xenon's for the Low Beams and Halogens for the High Beams. In my experience Halogen High Beams blind people even if they are aimed properly just due to the nature of the High Beams so I know a HID will definately blind people. I drive a lot on DARK roads LATE at night and I wouldn't mind getting something for my High Beams with a little bit more light output. Now I know I could just replace the OEM Halogen High Beams with some After Market Halogens and use the proper reflector housing but their life span isn't as long as a HID which would be in the WRONG housing. I do know that HID's need Projector Housings as I've done a proper retro fit before and didn't just skimp out and pull a Ricer MOD and put HID low beams in a halogen reflector housing blinding everyone around me on the road. I use my Projector HID Low Beams which are proper and I'd just shut the High Beams off while passing a car to not blind on coming traffic.

Long story short would it be worth it ($150-$200) to get a set of HID's for my High Beams for my RVR or should I fork out $80 for a set of Performance Halogens that wont last as long as the HID's. Which one would yeld better performance/Beam?

What I am considering

9005 / HB3 Xtreme Digital HID Conversion Kits - 5000k

If you are going to do the HIDS try DDM Tuning. I got my HIDs from DDM tuning, they are in my mazdaspeed and I have had them for about a year. Very happy with them. very inexpensive.

Way cheaper than anything your currently looking at. the only thing you'll have to do is order off ebay a set of connectors to mate up to your current bulb connector. It has the pins, just not the connector.

Are your OEM headlights not height adjustable? If they are, perhaps an option would be to place them on their highest setting and grab a pair of HID fog lights. This would add improved visibility at night and prevent blinding oncoming drivers.

not really interested in raising and lowering my Low Beams all the time but is there any way to rasie the lights a bit and then just use the auto lower/raise to lower them a bit when driving around during the day? maybe two levels higher for night?

This HID High Beam idea is sounding like a good idea. I am in Canada and I know NextMod is located in Toronto. They sell a Helligkeit 35W HID and Yellow Nokya H11 bulbs for that look I really like. Anyone have any experience with Helligkeit HID Kit? I had a set of PIAA H11 Yellow fogs in the Ralliart and Loved them and the look. I head Nokya is a cheaper version of the same thing. I hear PIAA and HELLA are just a name which RAMPS up the cost of the light.

You will run into HUGE problems with a projector retrofit!!! Our front housings are lexan or permaseal or w/e the hell type it is that does not open up easily with a heat gun or oven.

EDIT: Look here for what you'll need to do: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...yle-headlights

Personally, in the future I plan on doing an HID retrofit for my fog lights. You can get a pair of good quality Bi-Xenon projectors from The Retrofit Source for like $100. Add in some bulbs and ballasts (either from TRS for probably ~$75 or DDM Tuning for ~$30) and do a nice retrofit on your fogs. That should be nice and bright for normal driving w/o blinding traffic, and super bright with the brights on.

I am leaning toward picking up some HELLA or PIAA Halogens for sake of convince.

I don't see the problem with HID high beams as they're not normally used when driving. I rarely use my brights unless I'm on a deserted road with no street lights. High beams will blind everyone in front of you regardless whether they're HIDs or halogens.

HID bulbs in a halogen housing will output less usable light. Why would one want to make their high beams dimmer?

That is absolutely not true at all.

Put my Evo next to my friends. I have HID's retrofitted into my halogen headlights, he has OEM's and mine are very much noticeably brighter.

I have yet to see a vehicle that has an OEM option of HID's where an HID kit retrofitted into the halogen housing will outperform the OEM HID headlight every single time. Its all in the reflector design, they are different for the HID and halogen housings. The halogen housing will throw more light out with a retrofitted HID kit in it. (And believe me, I have seen quite a few vehicles like this. I actually prefer my halogen headlight housings with an HID kit than the factory HID housings. I even denied a set of OEM HID housing headlights for free.)

Besides that, I used to work for Osram Sylvania.

A retrofit is not the same as just sticking HID bulbs into a halogen reflector housing. You're talking about something completely different than me.
