Strut bar install, flat flange
Hi, I wanted to order a strut bar for my outlander but went into one concern. The original has the reinforcement ring, it's a circle on top of the tower and it curves upwards to clear the ribs on the sheet metal. (if removed, it would be like the second picture, these are from another post)
Mitsu removed the rings for the newer ones.. but problem still the same. The aftermarket bar comes with a flat flange, if you try to put this on, you would not get a very good fit or would damage the ribs.
I found some of the bars does work around this issue,
for example, the ralliart one comes with 3 spacers to lift the plate off these areas. as seen here
http://minkara.carview.co.jp/en/user...7789/note.aspx
The sigma speed is lifted up at the bolt area, which is great R&D
The colt speed seems to have built in washer under the plate
I didn't see most other bars on the market carefully fitted around this issue. They are just one flat ring. The OEM one also have clearances for the ribs underneath.
What have you done on your install?

I just bought a used Evo X strut bar and just installed it on my 2011 Outlander Sport SE. It just went flat and flush. That shouldn't be a problem should it? Have you looked into using the oem Evo X bar? Or is an issue?

Help Texas!!!
Texas,
After looking at the Mods thread and seeing the strut bars i am looking to put one in myself. You seem to be super mechanically inclined. I was looking at a bar for an evo 07,08,09 lancer similar to the one Axsess used. Do you think it will fit?DSC04793.jpg?t=1214333399

There are strut bars specifically made for the OS and most 08+ lancers strut bars fit. I made an aftermarket suspension option thread, and it includes strut bars. Take a look there for some options. And for reference I did not include "eBay" brands.

Yes, but I suggest getting a 3 piece bar instead of a 1 piece so you can have easy access to the filter when needed. Otherwise the bar makes it a little tricky to fit the cone filter on/off.

Edit: This post from my Takeda install thread:
Pro tip:
Don't follow the order of the directions if you have a strut tower brace installed...
Otherwise you'll be un-doing stuff to get the filter in. And yes, this means that filter cleanings/changes are going to be a royal *****.
It's in though
No comments about how dirty my engine bay is, lol.
More comments, pics, and info later. First impressions are excellent though. Noticeable improvement over the K&N drop in (MPG's will have to wait until next fill-up).

Overall, I am very, very pleased with the Takeda. It doesn't do too much for adding power, mostly only notice a sliiiiight improvement in "high RPM" acceleration, such as merging onto the expressway, or accelerating around someone at highway speeds. It doesn't really feel like "added power", more so that it just doesn't seem to struggle as much.
However, it certainly increased fuel mileage. The thing actually paid for itself a long time ago.
