Shift Gate Illumination?

I gotta stop letting my wife drive my RVR. She is wondering why there is no lighting under the shifter. Says it is hard to figure out which gear the transmission is in when it is dark. (I avoided pointing out the obvious: it's in forward if the car goes forward; it's in reverse if the car goes back)

I see that there is a blue LED illumination kit

for the later models but unable to find anything for more recent or if there are aftermarket for such a thing. Wired to the dash lights of course.

Ask your wife. Seriously, I would have thought there was a lamp in there but I did not see a bulb in the replacement listing. Interestingly, there are two red LEDs in the console that shine down onto the shifter, but they are kinda blocked by my custom SiriusXM sat receiver and mount. Oops.

All you really need is one of these $1.99 doodads , attached it to the shifter

Just have your wife hit/press the light button to get temporary illumination as needed.

In case you missed it, the goal here is to find a way to illuminate the shiftgate from underneath, like it is in most modern vehicles. As posted before, apparently the 13's onward have this. I was hoping that someone had already done this, but if all else fails I will just grab a couple resistors and a couple of LEDs and wire them in.

better put some in the footwell so she can see the gas and brake pedal.

i removed the map light bulbs in my wife's last car after she left them on and drained the battery for the second time. i did provide her a small LED flashlight because im not a monster.

Well this is embarrassing! LOL I got my wife to show me what she was doing and it turns out that she was NOT turning the headlamps switch all the way! When you do, sure enough there is a nice red illumination under the shifter and AWC control knob. I never drive at night in that car so never bothered to check. Of course this is all MY fault that the lighting was messed....

ha ha..

Now go give your wife a stern talking to - Tell her she needs to read the owner's manual and memorize all the features AND functions of this vehicle.
