Where do you find this stuff??? I am glad its here. You have any more info like that on the IX?? Good Stuff {thumbup}

wasFWDnowAWD Oct 13, 2010 09:52 PM

so VG reduce drag and lift by 0.006

Pizzamangtr Oct 14, 2010 06:50 AM

That's crazy that the vg actually is functional! I thought it was just something for look! I wonder if aftermarket ones for the viii are just as functional?

TouringBubble Oct 14, 2010 07:10 AM

If it's molded from the OE part, sure. If not, probably not ... or at least not as functional. No aftermarket VG is wind tunnel tested that I know of.

Pizzamangtr Oct 14, 2010 07:27 AM

If not wind tunnel tested could mess up the areo of the car design? Damn! Another worthless piece on my car! Lol! What about the apr canards?

hotrod2448 Oct 14, 2010 08:21 AM

You would probably be very surprised how little variance it takes to drastically alter the performance/effect of aerodynamic devices.

Grant it it's at a totally different level than your average streetcar/racecars but, we fight everyday for something as small as .010" on things like splitter height because they are that critical to the aero balance of the car.

Canards are kind of hard to mess up. they are likely working. But, with that said, the extra DF on the nose will make the rear feel that much lighter at speed, so more reason to keep the wing.

If you want to try for more top end ... lose the canards before the wing.

Damn again! I should have did this research before drilling holes in my bumper! Lol!

damn! what speed do you say would be safe till then? reason is a closed airport for racing. allot of domestic cars which insist on going at least 180mph. so i just wanna play it safe! thanks for your help guys!

I've had mine up to 167mph at the Texas Mile. The car was ungodly stable EVEN when I was braking. I have had it up above 175 when testing for the Mile but I just coasted after the pull. {thumbup}

Loose the canards, wing and fill the holes. Are you doing top speed runs on a closed course or "closed course?" If you are racing legit cover the oil cooler and the other hole on the lower left side of the bumper. Also fill the holes to the left and right of the Mitsu emblem. If you are still using the factory air inlet dont fill the left side. Any more questions check out AMS's thread where they posted pics of converting their car to run the Texas Mile.

I tried yesterday with wing and without.
With wing 253km/h without 258km/h (161mph), it's about 3mph difference. Without wing was car after 230km/h+ much harder to drive, not recommended for newbie.

If you read up on the changes between the VII and VIII (&IX) the differences in aero parts are always increased in a more efficient way. The wing on the VII VS the VIII for example are improved aerodynamically, and not for esthetic reasons, as many people think. I guess that's the reason it's called an Evolution.

I went wingless along time ago and I love it only feel's scary after 187mph :) but nothing you can't handle pizza boy :)
