Evo X cat and throttlebody status?...

Evo X status is this...

With regards to the bolt-on unit, we have switched fabricators. The delays we expereinced before should be a thing of the past. We have an OEM EvoX unit in hand for the jig. Right now, we are waiting on one of our vendors to supply us with our new TRUE 3" bullet cat prototype (the old ones were 3.125" inlet/outlet...we had to find someone with the machining capabilities for that). Hopefully we should have that prototype unit by next week, and then our fist bolt-on prototype can be made.

With regards to the Evo X TB...

That is currently in development. We also have some more upgrades for our Evo 8/9 units in the works, which will also be applied to the Evo X units. This new development should help further set us apart from the other offerings out there {thumbup}

Erik, THANK YOU for the information. I'm planning my upgrades, budget, etc in advance of purchasing the car and I'm glad you updated the thread with Evo X info. Let us all know when it's ready and the price. Great work, and thanks again!

Bump! Hey Erik, anything new with regards to the bolt-on unit?

Actually, yes and no.

As often happens, things get delayed. The new prototype was delayed, as we were waiting on some 304SS tubing to get in (as opposed to the old 409SS). I should have it in hand by the end of the week, and hopefully a jig begins to get made next week. Then we'll need a test-fit session, and then go into full production.

This is the downside to getting things manufactured from scratch. The upside is no one else will be able to provide the market with this particular 100 cell bullet cat :)

few quick questions, will the x hfc have a CEL fix integrated? Also is the price going to be similar to the 8/9 hfc's?

Erik@MIL.SPEC Aug 21, 2008 12:35 PM

Joey,

The Evo X HFC will have a bung for the 02 sensor. A CEL fix should be as simple as a spark plug anti-fouler (see mechanical CEL fix).

Price will be more since there will be mandrel bends in this piece. Target price is $329, which is cost competitive with other units on the market which use lower flowing cats.

Erik, are you in the Newbury Park area? If possible I would love to come by and pick up one of your universal 3" 100 cell race cats. I sent you a PM. {thumbup}

Has anyone tried the 100cell cat on an RRE stealth setup? Hows the noise increase? Still reasonable? About to purchase a decent amount of bolt-ons and considering this cat, but noise levels here in CA are worthy of caution!

I know many of the people running the RRE stealth exhaust have the RRE rally cat. In my experience, the MIL.SPEC 100 cell cat is slightly louder than a 3" HF ceramic unit. I would assume a testpipe to be more than marginally louder than the 100 cell race cat.

ronitlancer Aug 25, 2008 04:28 PM

Well the RRE Rally cat is what I am planning on getting now, is that and this a similar product? So you think this would be much closer to a HFC sound then it would be to a testpipe sound is what you're saying.

Erik@MIL.SPEC Aug 25, 2008 04:44 PM

The RRE Rally Cat is a test pipe that looks like a cat. I am not sure if it's louvered on the inside or perforated. It is much heavier than our bolt-on unit and doesn't clean the exhaust.

Our 100 cell cat is the highest flowing cat available. It provides excellent hp gains over stock, along with not making your eyes water. You'd be surprised how many people I've talked to who are sensitive to raw exhaust fumes.

I am not sure of the sound differences between the RRE unit and ours.

I tracked my car yesterday after installing Mil.Spec 100 cell race cat and Trust Ti-R cat back. Improved my 1/4 mile times by 3/10 sec and trapped 5mph higher. I highly recommend this cat over a 300 cell HFC.

No CEL or bad smell. Sounds perfect with my Trust. Very happy with it. Only nitpick I have are the little welding globs on the inside of the cat, which probably doesn't affect any performance and could be shaved off with a grinder.

I also received my cat promptly after giving Erick a short notice and was able to install it in time before the last day of track. Thanks again.

We are perfectionists here at MIL.SPEC, and we have switched fabricators. This should be a non-issue moving forward.

Glad to hear your results. 5mph in the 1/4 is no joke.
