Thanks, how are the 275 Hoosiers on the 18x10's?

I'm trying to decide on 18x10.5 or 18x10 for my 275 NT01's. (Evo X)

I guess I should have been more specific if I wanted a more specific, less smart *** answer.

I'm more interested in response differences between a "wider" 275 tire like a hoosier/NT01/etc between a 18x10 vs a 18x10.5 wheel.

I keep hearing the 275 NT01 likes a wider wheel because the sidewalls aren't as stiff.

I ran 255 RA1's on 8.5 wide wheels and they felt like marshmallows.

i dont think it would hurt to go with 10.5" wheels on 275 tires. my friend tim ran that on his evo x and it was fine, but he had +15 offset and the rear wheel stick about 1" outside the rear fender. wider wheels also mean more rotational mass though. my practice wheels are rpf1 18x9.5 with 275 scrub tires, i got them used for a good price.

i used to run 275 hoosier on rpf1 18x9.5. the tires was wearing on the outer edge prematurely. so i got a new set of 18x10 wheels, that definitely help with outer edge wearing. even at 3.4* camber outer edge still wearing quicker. so i'll have to increase camber to 3.8* this year and see. previously, i would run two events then have to flip the tires, or the outside could cord while the rest of the tires still got at least 50% left.

if you run nt01, the tires wont generate as much lateral Gs as the hoosiers, so less body roll and scrubbing the outer edge.

also, i switched to hoosier A7 last year, the sidewall is stiffer than A6.

tried out some ice racing for the first time this year. had a lot of fun. it was a bad season this year weather wise because of el nino. they didn't have suitable ice to race on till late in the season.

Great pics. I am really itching to try some ice racing this coming winter. Ideally, I would like to get a better oil pan since I am paranoid about spinning a bearing while racing around. Are you on regular snow tires, or are the studded?

why are you worried spinning bearing? you wont go fast enough or generate enough gforce on ice to cause any oil starvation issues.

i was on cheapo snow tires for this event, which didn't work as good as some of the top rated snow tires. most of them ran studded snow tires, which i want to pick up a set for this coming season.

You are right, I doubt I would generate enough gforce to starve the pickup, but I am paranoid as hell since my last Evo spun two bearings (not due to racing).
Can you just add studs to your current set of snow tires?

i know a lot of people who have tracked evo on stock oil pan for many years without bearings issues. yes the oil pressure does drop on right turns.

you can add studs to your current tires but you're time wont count. the studded tire class run spec tires according to AMEC club rules. it might be different for other region/club.

3.1.4.4. Studded Classes SLS & SLS4 require Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 or Hakkapelitta 8 as the specified tire. The tire must be used as manufactured and may not be altered in any way.
