Sad to see such a nicely put together evo leave the community. Hopefully the new owner understands what he has.
I can't say with any kind of solidarity on the IMS issue, but what "i've read on the internet" is that the 996 non-turbo it was a huge issue. The 996 turbo it was a rare issue, and on the 997 turbo it's a non-issue.

commonly the 997 owners say they need to do some kind of coolant plug replacement because the pieces can come out if the car is tracked extensively. However it seems like it's happened to a few race cars, but not common on street cars, but the enthusiasts do it anyway to prevent engine failure. THey have a name for the procedure, but I don't recall what it was. It's a pretty simple procedure, but for people who can't get dirt or oil under the fingernails, you'd have to pay a P-car technician their rate to do a basic task. The number of pieces that need to be fixed varies per year, chassis, model, etc... some people say 5 some people say 8, and they're both right lol.

For the most part, they look like they're built like a brick **** house.

That's pretty much how I understood the IMS issue as well. The way I see it, there are plenty of porsches built/raced and there should be a solution for all the problems. I guess it's just a matter of how much it cost. I didn't know about the coolant plug .

Anyway, I would love to build a car just like you are describing. Best of luck with it and be sure to show us what your up to.

I would sure agree with that, just because when you talk to those guys, it's like you are talking to actual engineers, which is not always the case in car-nut world.

Great thread and also I came to the same conclusion for big power. If you want 600whp+ reliable you need more than 4 cylinders lol.

And now that you work at APR... can you guys crack the Lexus IS-F and RC-F ECU. My IS-F needs twin turbos , they says that the lexus/toyota ECU is uncrackable maybe APR is up to the challenge

I chose GTR. I still have the Evo as well. You can make 1000whp on GTR for about 20K if you do all the work.

Ok,
So I have an update.

The R35/997.1 debate continues... Evo's buyer wont be down to drive the car and commit to buying it until March. I'm driving it in the meantime.

I've ordered a Burn Stainless 3.5" slip fit muffler so i can quiet the car down a bit. It's exceptionally loud. My friends inside their homes know when I go home and go to work.

I'm making a new front motor mount with a Energy Suspension bushing and some Chromoly tubing. That should tighten up the shifts a bit.

I'm having a fuel pressure sensor issue where it's shorting to ground.. need to figure that out.

Car runs great and the cold starts in Alabama are getting much much better the more I drive the car.

I'm also adding foam to the inner fender area to prevent rocks and debris from getting thrown into the door jam area near the side skirts.

Love the car. its a freaking riot.
