Did you give any consideration to a V8 R8? A very basic search turned up a couple early ones for 60k-70k.

I imagine twin turbo'ing an R8 doesn't have the same aftermarket support that the 911/GTR have but from the looks of it by your fab work on the evo - I'm sure you could come up with a pretty slick setup. Lighter platform. Better looking (imo) and mid engine is the best layout (and more exclusive)

And if the block needs upgrading - is there any relation between the 4.2L V8 in the R8 to the newer 4.0L TT engine in the S7/8 etc. ?? I don't know VW at all. But it could be that a frankstein of those engines could handle 1000+ hp easy. I'm sure you could swing a deal on parts working for APR. Right? Lol.

Good luck with whatever you end up going with.
R8 V8 doesn't put power down well... I did a supercharged TVS1740 on a v8 r8. Did 535awhp on 93 octane, 585awhp on 104 octane. 14psi of boost. I could easily do a twin turbo r8 v8 and run 14psi with the factory DI system and make 750whp pretty easily on the stock longblock (well maybe not valve springs)

No relation to the 4.0 and the 4.2. 4.0 exhaust ports are in the valley. And there are a few different engine codes for the 4.0 and the 4.2... so each engine is not the same. IIRC there are 3 variants for the 4.0, and several more for the 4.2L. the 4.0TT in the RS7/S8 I've done 960awhp and over 1000lb-ft with an APR dealer in Russia (twin 7163's) The S6/S7 engine is different from that one, and the A8 engine different yet again (yet all are 4.0TT's)

The tuning would be very simple on a v8 r8 since I've already done a ton of boosted v8 Audi's (in fact I've tuned all of them lol) I just wish I could build a twin turbo r8 for fun and keep my Evo.

Oh gotcha. I was not aware of that. I was pimping the mid engine layout and I wonder if that layout isn't the best for putting down all wheel drive power. Maybe does the drive train have to make an extra 90 degree turn to send the power forward??? Shrugs.

From what you're saying, it sounds like a 4.0 TT swap into an R8 is what needs to be done. haha

Hey R/TErine. Still have your Evo 9? Any updates on it? I have followed this build from the beginning and this is always one car I continue to think about. If you're ever thinking about selling it, please let me know. Thanks.
