an '03 evo

i've never really posted on the forums for anything but selling parts when i'm cleaning out the garage, but here goes.

i bought an E8 in 2003 after writing off my '92 vw gti that i had built over the past 5 years... high compression engine, individual throttles, raised suspension mounts, made a rear trailing arm, made uprights to change outboard mounting point height, made big brakes, etc, etc... needless to say, i sold the parts and was able to buy a car that i had always wanted...

i did some basic garbage to my evo over the next few years, and eventually hit a deer at just under 100mph... i was lucky the hit was at speed as the damage was minimal, but the antlers did pierce the window and gouge the dash panel right above the cluster, so it certainly could have been much worse... i had a few things that i wanted to do as i had another car that i was driving everyday, but i never had the motivation to do it... so this event sort of kicked the whole process in motion...

my evo has been sitting for almost 4 years now (less than 40k on the odometer... when it had one)... i finally have put time aside to start picking away at my laundry list of to-do's and get this project wrapped up...

so enough babbling... here's the list:

'03 evo
converted to active center diff
stasis/alcon 6 pot front brakes
stasis/alcon 4 pot rear brakes
ats carbon plate differentials front and rear
all the whiteline suspension bushings (for now)
dms 50mm tarmac shocks with dms top plates (modified to mount on top of chassis points)
roll cage built by kenny conway (tig welded 4130)
tilton 900 series floor mount pedal box
quarter master clutch
kinsler intake manifold
3" drive by wire throttle
GT3076R with TiAl .82 hotside
manley crank
manley turbo tuff rods
cp pistons (coated dish and skirts)
calico coated ACL bearings
headwork by ProPort with coated combustion chambers and exhaust ports
full ferrea valvetrain
tomei solid lifters
Hans Herman cams
24.5" primary equal length tubular exhaust manifold (321 stainless)
3" 20g 321 stainless exhaust with coast fab rebuildable muffler
MoTeC m800 (all options enabled)
MoTeC OKM
MoTeC MDC
MoTeC SDL
MoTeC RG10hzGPS
MoTeC PDM16 for drivetrain control
MoTeC PDM15 for chassis control
M&W Pro14D CDI box

there is a lot more stuff, but i can't always remember it.

all of the steel and aluminum parts have been fabricated by me unless i make a note otherwise... i have been making a good amount of hammer forms for this project (charge cooler end tanks, tank tops and bottoms, etc)...

Wow nice build man!! im very interested in seeing the way it runs. Is this a 2.0L or did you go up on displacement?

it is a 2.3L... if i did it again, i would have built a 2l...

i have two more things to finish and then the engine comes out and goes on my engine dyno to map... i'm not looking for a bunch of horsepower (got car weight down to just under 2700lbs wet without me in it), so my target of 530 crank should be plenty quick.

there is a lot more control with dbw... i'm just a dumb human...

launch control, acceleration control, blip downshifts, etc... electronics are faster and more consistent than we are...

Amazing!! nice to finally see the kinsler manifold, wasn't sure if it existed, i knew there was talks of it. 2 of my buddies just picked one up for their honda's and i was very impressed. Too bad the manifold i picked up instead just showed up today

Very impressive work on the harnesses! I'll be tackling that soon :/

to the best of my knowledge, this is the only one they have done for a mitsubishi... i'm interested to see the changes in power band when i change the plenum volume on the dyno.

You must have some friends at MoteC.

Fab work looks great! I'm jealous of the intercooler endtanks.

not from this project... at the time i had chosen MoTeC good because of the flexibility in the canbus comm protocols... now that pectel has user defined can, i probably would have used an SQ6 (better bang for the buck and i feel while slightly 'canned', more flexible in some ways... if that makes sense)...

I feel like your title doesn't properly represent what you have going on inside the thread.

Looks great.
