Thanks! That tar was awful. I used a ton of degreaser, two coats of aircraft paint stripper, a wire wheel, and a lot of scrubbing. Once I was done cleaning it I had to throw away the pants and shoes I was wearing.

Its in really good shape. It had some minor surface rust but nothing like your pan. With the rust bullet coating it should out last the rest of the car. Once I get a lift I plan to coat the entire undercarriage with the stuff as well as seam seal everything that isnt done by the factory.

Why use sealant instead of spot welds or rivets?

Nice! Yeah, if I decide to keep the car when it's awd and 4g63'd then we are going to get it acid dipped and do a full chassis rust treatment prior to it's new paint. It will also be getting a full cage that'll tie into the strut towers so the chassis will be able to take the power for years to come. That's a LONG way off though lol.

The seam sealant is to prevent water from getting in between the panels that have been spot welded. They do a lot of seams at the factory, however there are a number of them that I feel should be but are not.

Looking good! I have a question, I just bought an Evo 4 front clip, it did not come with a rear diff, subframe, or driveshaft. Could I use a rear diff, subframe, and driveshaft from an Evo 8? I'm doing the conversion to a 2000 mirage and I'm having a hard time finding an Evo 4 rear floor pan.

I agree with you on that! I usually work on Subarus which are sealed everwhere, and the lack of it on the Evo sure seemed like an invitation for rust.
