Evo 6 TME 2.1L build...bring on 10,000rpm...

Thought I’d start a thread showing what I’m up to with my new build.

I have a Evo 6 Tommi Makinen Edition which I’ve owned for about 7 years now and have gone through various set ups in that time.

Initially the car was standard apart from an Apexi Power FC which had a crap tune on it when I purchased the car. I got the car tuned and it made 273hp at the wheels on 20psi boost. This lasted 3 weeks before bending a rod. From there the car turned into a big black hole for money!

Initial build was a 2.3L stroker with GT3540R and made 450whp on pump gas and 556whp on C16. This build looked completely factory with factory inlet and exhaust manifolds and factory airbox! This was fairly epic for 6 years ago.

Then I changed a few things and went to a tubular manifold, GT4094R, NOS, AMS inlet manifold, Sparktech CDI and made 736whp on C16 at 40psi.

Now I’m building a new 2.1L destroker motor by myself and changing to a GT4202R…this should be interesting!

Progress will be slow but I’ll try and update this as I go. Full spec of the car as it stands now will follow.

My favourite pic of the car:

I love torque just as much as the next guy, but I also have a soft spot for a monster turbo mated to a motor that can rev to the MOON. Good luck!

I'm totally not trying to sound like a dick, but a 2.1 uses a stock 88mm crank. It says on your build sheet that your using an OEM 2.4 crank.

I can't wait to see results. It's going to be awesome. I love the TME's.

New 2.1 spec list:

2L K1 Lightweight Crank
162mm Manley Turbo Tuff Rods
Wiseco 1400HD 87MM Pistons 9:1CR
ACL Race Bearings
Race Balance Shafts with counterweight removed
Factory oil pump & water pump with AWD Motorsports water pump adapter plate
AWD Motorsports 87mm Headgasket
O-ringed block
Cosworth H11 Headstuds
ARP mains studs
AMS CNC Head with +1mm valves, beehive springs, titanium retainers, bronze guides
Kiggly HLA Regulator
HKS Cam Gears
3mm Lash Adjusters/lifters

Things left to decide on - please help!
1) Cams - I'm thinking Kelford TX280 (280, 276 combo) the same as what AMS are running but am unsure. The GSC S3 cams also look good. What are peoples opinions here?

2) Does the oil pump need modifying/high flowing? If so, how do I go about doing that?? I'm planning on smoothing the oil grooves in the block and rounding corners where possible.

3) Oil clearances - I'm thinking of aiming for close to 0.003" for the rev's I'm aiming for but am not totally set on that yet. I don't have the funds to try this and fail so opinions needed here too please?!

4) Head stud torque - I'm thinking close to 100ftlb on the H11 studs but haven't as yet done any research on this. Any suggestions?

I like me some S3s. They seem to be great up top just like the Kelfords, with less midrange loss. Not sure how a 280/276 Kelford would be, though.

Very nice,

Please post our progress.

Any idea if we can use a 86.5m piston with the 88mm crank and 162mm rods?

Thanks
