Got the downpipe on finally. Started to swap fresh fuel pumps in. Started with my Radium surge tank. Pulled my F90000274 to replace it with a F90000295:
Then I went to clean out my surge tank and realized it was filled with weird black shavings...
What I ended up seeing was the anodizing on the inside of surge tank had failed... Yikes! Good thing I pulled the pump to swap or I would have run the car with all these shavings in the surge tank!
It's a radium. Thats interesting. I would contact radium before putting that together. It's just going to keep flaking and the bare aluminum will corrode and gunk up filters.

Yea, I'm for sure not going to re-install it. I emailed them, we'll see what they say. I'm sure it's way out of warranty. I've used the tank since 2015.
It's also odd that it's just at the lower level. The surge tank was full when I took it out, so the part where it's flaking was not at the ethanol line. Wonder if it's from the worm clamps?
I initially though it was at the level of the pump and maybe the pump is bouncing around in there. But I doubt that bracket it's hung on is bending/flexing around.

It's not from anything contacting it, the anodizing is bubbling up. The bracket ain't moving. It's L shaped and super rigid.
Here is before I started wiping it down and it before a bunch came off on my rag, you can see the anodizing bubbling up:
It could have been real bad if all that had clogged up the sock. Thanks for sharing, I have a radium fuel filter I'll be keeping a close eye on from now on. What kind of fuel was sitting in there? Any additives/stabilizers etc in it?

Straight E80 that has been sitting in there for almost a year and a half.
Argh, Radium is out of stock at least 2-3 weeks out.
Now to hunt to see if any vendors have the 20-0059-00 FST Surge Tank in stock...
You could get the old part re-anodized. I can buy it and the modify the surge tank to double containment with a teflon tank. Let me know if you are interested in selling it.
