Received the new surge tank today. I also took this opportunity to upgrade to Radiums new fuel pump hanger.
I currently have their old design hanger, but their new design is so much better and also way easier to install. In fact, after looking at the surge tank next to the new hanger, I wonder if a surge tank is even needed anymore for most people? At least now I will have zero possibility of pump starvation...
That is SOOO much better than their previous design (which I have installed). The old design had those floppy check-***** and the bottom overall wasn't sealed very well at all. This new unit is completely sealed with a different one-way bottom inlet. I think you are right, this new design looks like it makes a surge tank NOT required even with slicks....
Well, not all is smooth in new fuel pump hanger land.
Looks like the Walbro 255 (new style GS352) is just shy of fitting correctly in the new hanger. I have both the fuel pump outlet and the radium fitting butted up against each other and the pump sits a little too tall for the canister. Which makes the fuel sock push up against the check valve at the bottom of the canister, causing it not to operate correctly...
While you shouldn't have to..... can you cut the top barb off the fuel pump outlet or shorten the radium fitting to get the clearance you need? Kinda like the Walbro 450 install onto the stock hanger.

It's not like the 450 pumps with two barbs, it just has the single barb, but, yes, my plan is to file a little bit off both to gain some extra clearance.
Radium responded and actually told me this is normal and won't stop the valve from working but I have a very hard time believing that as it's basically smashed up against the sock currently.
I'm with you, I wouldn't leave it that way either. Do you think an OEM style sock might help? ~$9 from rockauto.
Would probably be the same if not worse. You can see how the sock is situated in the photo below. They do make a version of this pump with the inlet on the other side of the pump that would probably solve this. I'll try shortening the barbs first before spending another $100 on a pump.
Alrighty. I filed down the radium fitting. I couldn't also file down the pump nipple as there is some internal stuff I didn't want to mess with.
This gave me a little more room, however, the sock still pushes up against the check valve, just not as bad as before. I'm just going to install it and cross my fingers.
Made a ton of progress today. Engine bay looks like a complete engine bay again.
I just have to attach the turbo drain line to the block, swap in fresh oil, and get some fresh E85 and I'll be starting it up for the first time since November 2019.
I'll put the manifold heat shielding back on after I go through some heat cycles and check all the bolts.
