Matt's 2012 Evo X Street & Track Build!

What's up guys?! I picked up a 2012 Evo X GSR about a month ago after tossing around the idea for a long time. I'm a big BMW guy, from full race cars to street cars and anywhere in between. My last DSM was a 1g probably 10 years ago! I race BMW's with BMW CCA and NASA and have been in the track scene since 2007. I say that because I'm sure this car will see some dual purpose track events between races just for fun and that's how I plan to build her. 400-450whp on 93oct and probably an e85 tune as well. I'd run e85 all the time if it were easily accessible in my area, just north of Atlanta.

I purchased the car with 47k miles no it from a local dealer. While I was at the dealership there was a guy there that knew some history on the car so I was able to track down the shop that did the work, Top Speed, and find out what all mods it currently had. Top Speed had also tuned it via AP but the dealer ganked the AP from the car so I couldn't verify what tune was on it so I purchased another AP and had them toss their tune back on it for me. 328whp.

Suspension
  • H&R Springs

  • AMS Intake
  • AMS Upper Intake Pipe
  • ETS Intercooler (not sure which one)
  • Greddy SP Elite Exhaust
  • High Flow Cat Pipe (not sure of brand)
Wheels
  • SSR Wheels w/ new tires

I quickly started researching mods to match my goals. 400-450whp on 93oct, quick spooling for street and road courses. Obviously that means handling too! I started to keep my eyes open on the forums for some good deals and slowly add parts to my online carts. Well, things escalated quickly and as of this coming Friday I'll receive the last package that will finish the following list of parts.

Thanks already to Chet Rickerman for the turbo suggestions and advice, among other parts, and Derek "DereksX" for the countless texts to answer my questions and sell me a boat load of parts! Chet, can't wait to have you tune her!

We moved into a new house ~3 months ago and I am waiting to install everything until after I get the garage floor finished. I have industrial epoxy - primer, epoxy, clear - sitting here that I need to install! I'm still debating on doing the clutch myself or not, can't seem to find a shop who will do it for a decent price. Hopefully I'll have everything installed in a few weeks! The only things I've installed so far is the AP & the new radio/screen.

Parts pictures coming soon but here is a teaser after a few shipments came in.

Stock turbo note from above: I intended to run an FP Red so I picked up another stock turbo to send off to FP. I bought one and quickly shipped it to FP. Unfortunatly I received an email and phone call once they received the turbo saying there was a hairline crack in the exhaust housing and they would not perform any upgrades on it. Boooo!! The seller has been awesome and is going to refund my $ once he receives the turbo back - top notch guy!

I was debating on picking up another stock turbo to send FP but in the end found a NEW CBRD BBX Full turbo and decided to jump on it.

Stay tuned for more to come!!!!

Catch can got here so it's now on the shelf too. The seller of the roof rack broke it when packaging so now I'm on the hunt for another one, doh! Swaybar kit is still on backorder, should be another week before shipping, zzzz

Sent the valve cover off to powdercoating and he sent me some pictures this morning!!

Before going in the oven:

After being baked:

After clear coat!:

He said it turned out absolutely awesome and the color is amazing. Excited to get it back and on!

Well things have still been collecting in the basement as I've been waiting on the weather to cooperate with me to do the garage floor. This weekend it finally happened, yay! I used a kit from Legacy Industrial for the primer, epoxy, & urethane clear coat. Before the primer went on I also used a diamond grinder over the entire thing. Overall I'm happy, it's super thick and much much better quality than the Home Depot kit I used in our last house. However, not too happy with some spots that were left and one of the rollers self destructing during the epoxy process, sigh.

3 of 4 sections diamond grind complete

Diamond grinding done - lots and lots of cleanup later. Probably swept 8 times and hosed it down 3 times.

Primer

Mix mix mix

Done after epoxy and clear I think...tooooo many pictures- will put everything back in the garage on Sunday.
