New Purchase: Lancer Evo 4 (JDM Goodness)
This needs to be known!!

I just purchased this beauty at auction, and thought some people might appreciate some documentation to the process!

I'm located in Michigan, in the US, which means that this car can't enter the country for importation until it is at least 25 years from the month of manufacture (I believe this one is 11/96). That means in exactly 5 years, it will be eligible of importation.

As you can see this one is a pretty good, one owner, example. This one is a grade 3.5 with an interior grade of C. The mileage is at 88,000km (55,000 miles). I've had an R32 GT-R in this condition and it was phenomenal. The grading is quite subjective and there really isn't a good standard (a grade 4/B Evo 4 was up for sale recently with a broken passenger's window).
The grading is out of 5 in 0.5 increments, most cars off the lot are 4.5-5. The interior is A, B, C and D. with B-C being most used cars. Again, it's not an iron clad standard.
Needless to say I'm quite excited to see the car. I can't remember which auction the car was in (there are several) but I will find out and update this. The car will be transported to Tomaya for long term storage. I went through Rivsu imports out of Sanford, FL. There has been one minor hiccup so far, with the fact that they wanted about $1200 more after the car was purchased and I had already wired a large sum of money. That felt pretty scummy, but I'm getting a complete breakdown of costs soon.
My fiancee and I both just got new positions that has potential to take us to Japan. At which time I will be able to drive the car around at will (Rivsu puts insurance and temp tags for the length of my stay).

Can I ask you why you bought this? It's dope don't get me wrong at all, but buying a car just to have it chill in another country for the next 5 years seems silly to me. Was it just such a deal that it couldn't be passed up on or do you spend a bunch of time in said country?

Fair question. I have watched prices on a lot of JDM cars and what they're selling for at auction for a few years. The price typically doubles even triples as they near the 25 year mark. 89 GTRs went from being 8k for to condition to 15-20k auction price. The car was under $7k. I'm confident it'll be a $20k on the low side when it's in the country. Especially considering the recent cessation of the Evo brand.
I recently took an engineering position with a company that does a lot of business in Japan so I foresee myself traveling there at least a few times before 2021. My fiance just took an engineer job at Nissan, too. Same story there.
